Nottingham Forest away. It’s what dreams are made of.
It’s back to reality and back to the Premier League. On Tuesday we flew to Germany, on Saturday we’ll be off to Nottingham. It’s a toss-up which takes longer although there aren’t as many hold-ups at 30,000 feet as there are on the M42.
Back in the days of yore Nottingham was famous for Brian Clough and having seven women to every man. One of them’s gone now and the other never existed, except in the minds of impressionable football supporters. Over the years we’ve had a few memorable moments at Forest – losing 6-0 and waving goodbye to Graham Turner, that incident at the station, winning our first FA Cup quarter-final for decades, Steve Hodge. Then they started to fall apart and did an even better job of it than we managed.
They’ve got Alex Moreno on loan from us, and not as many Portugese internationals as you might think given who their manager is. On that subject he deserves full credit for the way he’s been able to get over the disappointment of leaving the biggest job any manager could hope for, so much so that Forest are doing much better than expected this season, or at least they will be until Saturday. You could almost say well done if we were in the business of praising any other club. We aren’t.
It’s at this point where we start talking about injuries, but with a bit of luck there haven’t been any more this week and some of them are even starting to get fit again. We’re also beginning to get the hang of this two games a week business and we’re back on form. We might not be playing the sort of sparkling football that we were twelve months ago but three wins in a row isn’t to be argued with. Neither is four.
