Spurs in the FA Cup. That’s Sunday’s showdown.
It’s the FA Cup again on Sunday and this year we’ve managed to achieve the giddy heights of staying in the competition until February. We may as well make the most of it; the ground’s more or less sold out so yet again Chris Heck will be calculating how much he’s lost by only charging £25 for tickets, and weeping.
We’re playing Spurs at Villa Park, which is just about the best draw we could have got. After all, clubs like them who are fighting relegation don’t usually take the cups seriously because they’re more concerned with staying in the Premier League.
They’ve got a manager who’s getting sacked in the morning and Johan Lange as Technical Director. He got us Emiliano Martinez and Ollie Watkins, as well as Morgan Sanson and Ross Barkley I. They’re still being run by Daniel Levy, who everyone in football is wary of coming up against, probably because they’re worried they’ll piss themselves laughing when he offers fifty quid and a second-hand skateboard for their players. Mad Mile Jedinak is one of their coaches.
Spurs supporters, of whom there will be far too many in the ground because it’s the cup, tend to be a bit on the entitled side. Whenever there’s a Big Anything then whatever the number is, Spurs insist of being a part of it. You can tell them that being a Big Something should mean winning the league, or at least coming close, since black and white TV, but you’d be wasting your breath because they won’t listen. Spurs say they’re a Big Club therefore Spurs are a Big Club.
I don’t suppose we’ll know how seriously the managers are taking this one until the teams are announced. We might have a couple of the new signings in the team and winning will put them well on the way to becoming legends.
