Burnley are next up at Villa Park.
Sunday afternoon again, and welcome back to what’s left of Aston after the recent storms. Last Sunday was perfect weather for watching the Villa brushing aside mediocre opposition with a minimum of fuss. This week it might be a bit more challenging but the end result will be the same.
This time it’s Burnley’s turn to be allowed to grace the centre of the universe. You might remember Burnley; they got promoted last season. There’s a good chance they’ll be promoted next season as well. They were one of the original Football League members, they wear our colours because they wanted to be like us and they sold us Tony Morley. He went back there for a bit when he was playing in Smethwick, which must have had him reflecting on his career choice.
Their manager looks like he should be playing a defence attorney in a seventies American TV series and he doesn’t stay in one place for too long, which is lucky when the place you’re in is Burnley. They’ve got Kyle Walker, who was on loan with us a long time ago. So long ago that when he was here Harvey Elliot was seven. You could also say something about their supporters, but it’s all a bit too easy.
We’ve got Boubacar Kamara fit again, although seeing him rested wouldn’t be the biggest surprise of all time, unlike if Morgan Rogers was dropped. Hopefully the world’s number one and John McGinn are fine.
Normal match previews would be talking about formations, current form, who will be playing where, xG, possession stats and all that sort of stuff. It’s a bit different here – we’re Aston Villa, they aren’t. Our players are better than theirs, our manager is better than anyone else’s. No need for worry or deep analysis, we’re going to win. No problem. Beware of falling branches.
