La plus grande scène

Paris St Germain are coming to Villa Park. Come on you Lions.

Yet again, this is what we support the Villa for. This is why we’ve gone through some truly shite times, watching appallingly bad players serving up even worse performances. To have nights like this, when the world will be watching us marching on towards a date with destiny.

Admittedly there’s the small matter of overturning a two-goal deficit against the team who on current form are probably the best in Europe, but never mind that. We’re at Villa Park under the lights and you know what that means.

They’ve got a team full of world stars and a benchful just as good. Their manager is one of the best in the business. They’ve got the biggest wage bill in the world. All in all we’re in for one hell of a night. We’ve got the recent strength in depth that we’ve shown can turn games. We’ve got Unai Emery and we’ve got Villa Park.

What’s happening before the match is always worth looking forward to. Their supporters will be Up Town trying ever so hard to be intimidating then marching down to the ground. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if someone gave them the wrong directions and they went straight on at Perry Barr and ended up at Bescot? We’ll have our usual big banner, and let’s wonder what it might be. A fifty foot picture of the best keeper in the world might annoy the opposition a bit.

And then the match itself. There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s going to be tough. So tough that if we do go through it’ll have to rank as our greatest European night of the lot. No impatience, no annoyance if it doesn’t start out how we want, just ninety minutes of your usual tremendous vocal backing and 110% from each and every one of the players. Do you want to bet against us?
