LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE
LAST OF THE SUMMER WINE
I read recently about football clubs selling their own wine. I suppose Villa will soon
follow suit with:-
1977 A good year, although any success in tasting this wine takes time, at least
three repeats are necessary to obtain the full results. The important elements of this
wine are repeated in the current vintage.
1981 Our best vintage full bodied, a blend of the finest grapes teaming together
to produce a fine wine that lasts throughout the tasting to a superb climax.
1982 A worthy successor to the '81. Lacks the roundness of the previous year's'
vintage. but when tasted abroad produces an unforgettable result.
1987. Utter garbage The vintage this year was contaminated by a virulent
Scottish pest with the result that the year's entire supply was undrinkable.
1993. A mixed vintage. At first tasting this wine appears to emulate the '81.
Unfortunately, a thin end product leaves a poor finish.
1994 Another controversial wine. First impressions, give an excellent indication
of a tasting treat, unfortunately, some of the grapes in this vintage were past their best
and left a bitter aftertaste.
1996 Too soon to be certain, but has the indications of being another vintage
year,
