Below is my favourite letter of all time to a newspaper (the Argus, to be precise).   Written by some sadBlueNose (who else), you can read H&V's comments and factual corrections at the end.  I'M AMAZED THE GUY CAN READ.

Dear Sir,

I read Alex Russon's comments last week with amazement.

He and lots of other Villa supporters are living in the past, most of Villa's honours were won before the turn of the century. (1)

(1) No they weren't.
He says qualification for the Leyland DAF Cup is to come from the lower half of the league. Well he sure has a short memory, as Villa arrived there a good ten years before the Blues. (2)

(2) And got out again.
Talking of firsts. Blues reached a Wembley FA Cup Final 25 years before the Villa did (3) and have still played in more.(4)

(3) No they didn't. (4) No they haven't.
They were also the first English club to play in a European competition(5) and the first to reach a final, a feat they reached the following year.(6)

(5) No they weren't. (6) No they weren't.
Blues have, in fact, played more games in European competition than the Villa (7)and more than most of today's first division.

(7) No they haven't.
Blues were also the first league club to get promoted to the first division the next year after being relegated.(8)

And finally most Villa supporters will not believe this one, but the Blues have still played more seasons in the First Division than out of it.

BOB PICKETT, Sheldon
