There aren’t many of them to go.
At the start of the week Francesco Calvo resigns from his job as Managing Director of Revenue & Football Development at Juventus. Whatever that is, he’s also done much the same at Barcelona and Roma. This wouldn’t normally be too interesting but apparently he’s set to join us, presumably as Chris Heck’s replacement.
Morgan Rogers has been nominated for the Premier League’s Young Player of the Season award. He won’t win; none of ours ever do.
Chris Brown, who we believe is a pop singer who has had several records in the hit parade, has been arrested for assault and remanded in custody. Again, normally this would be of no interest to us but he’s due to be performing at Villa Park in the summer. Perhaps he can play from the Cells.
Lucas Digne says he’s playing his best football ever, he loves it here and wants to stay forever. Which is nice. There’s also a good piece about Enzo Barrenechea in the Athletic, where it seems he might have a part to play next season. Which of course equally means that Boubacar Kamara will be sold.
Marcus Rashford is definitely out for the rest of the season, as though there was ever any doubt. If that’s it, thanks for what you did even if it wasn’t for as long as we’d have liked. Talking of loans, there’s a story that Marco Asensio could be ours for £12 million, which seems a bit of a bargain.
And to show that we wouldn’t be going down the route marked ‘Coutinho’ our Spanish genius shows a lot of what he can do against Spurs. We shouldn’t have been playing them on Friday night but if we had to, there was no better way than to brush them aside with ease. Asensio, Ollie Watkins and John McGinn could all have scored in the first half but didn’t and normally there’d have been a real feeling that this was One Of Those Nights. Not this night, because Spurs were woeful from start to finish.
Eventually Boubacar Kamara got a goal, Ezri Konsa got another and we’ve done all we can this weekend so the rest is up to everyone else. Then it was tine for the lap of appreciation and a chance to honour the players who have done so well this season as well as look at their reactions for signs of who might be off. If that’s anything to go by the best keeper in the world will be getting a cab straight to BHX, a belief reinforced by a load of subsequent press speculation.
The next afternoon sees the youth team in the Premier League play-offs, against northern section winners Manchester City. We beat them in the cup, we beat them in the league. 1-0 this time and the treble is ours. Well done the youth team.
A couple of hours later the FA Cup final didn’t happen again and over the weekend some results went our way, most didn’t and going into the final match we can end up in any of the three European competitions. It’d be fun if we weren’t involved.
