As the British film industry celebrates its stunning triumphs at this year's Oscars, pundits have been asking why the Sceptics at the Academy refuse to acknowledge a true genius of the cinema. once again, the much loved porky publisher 'Delectable' David Sullivan, has been overlooked, receiving not a single nomination nor, indeed, the lifetime achievement award many believe to be long overdue.

Its believed that the answer to this despicable omission lies in Sullivan's recent work. For nearly a decade, he produced genuine masterpieces but has of late been responsible for some of the most gratuitously violent, sick features it has ever been the censors misfortune to snip. The list of Sullivan credits says it all:

Come Play With Me (1977) "..a top-drawer tear jerker "-The Times.

Playbirds (1978) "Set to be a family favourite for years to come. "- The Washington Post.

Confessions from the David Galaxy Affair (1979) - "Un plus grand tour de force pour le cinematographique."- Paris Match.

Queen of the Blues (1979) "The golden era of Disney - only better." - Daily Telegraph.

Mary Millington's True Blue Confessions (1980) "I wanted that part." -Laurence Olivier.

Mary Millington's World Striptease extravaganza (1981) "No better use of celluloid could possibly be found."- Screen.

Emmanualle in Soho (1981) "A real fillip for tourism in the capital". Evening Standard.

The Hellcat Mud Wrestlers (1982) "Eat your heart out "gone With the Wind." Class in a can."- New York Times.

Female Foxy Boxers (1983) "Touching, tragic, tremendous- Pravda.

Queen Kong The Amazonian Woman (1984) "A real Wimmin's tale." - Germaine Greer.

Birmingham City Review of the Season 1993-94 (1994) "Ten years and this is the best he could come up with?"- Exchange & Mart.

Birmingham City Review of the Season 1994-95 (1995) Double winners? Double diabolical," more like!"- Financial Times".

Birmingham City Review of the Season 1995-96 (1996) "However did this sick orgy of violence and filth get a certificate?"- Daily Sport.

It is believed that the Obscene Publications Squad are taking an active interest in Mr Sullivan's latest cinematic venture. A brilliant career shattered for the sake of a few cheap thrills and a quick buck. A nation mourns.

Oliver Stone is 47.
