It all started with the incredible moment right after the game that Legohead was fired. Nobody saw that level of rage from Nas as like all of us he'd seen enough. And then not long after the coup of pulling Emery away from Villareal to manage us. But not just that the immense faith he had in him to allow him to create the club in his own vision. From top to bottom this is the club and culture Emery wants and it's just astonishing to see how far we have come in such a short time. The bench at the weekend was the strongest most of us had ever seen and that's even without Bailey and Barkley. We have multiple first teams now and that's down to the job Emery and his team have done, supported by the work of all those behind the scenes.

I think it's completely understandable (if sometimes confusing) to use both if you are currently in the week before, but obviously after that weeks Wednesday. If someone on Thursday said "next Wednesday," I would most likely think they meant the Wednesday occurring next week and not the one after that. However, if it was Monday and someone said "next Wednesday," I wouldn't literally think it would be the "next" Wednesday in two days' time but the one the following week. Classic H&V, though. Where's Footy to stop me wasting my time?

Exactly. Given I posted this on Saturday the following week hadn't started. That accounts for believers of weeks starting on Sunday or Monday (another dangerous rabbit hole to disappear down). But the next Wednesday would be the next one available in the future. And it's thre day where we decide on colour of sauce on a hot dog and favourite biscuits.

Gerrard still thinks he did a good job down the Villa (or at least that's what he said in the one interview where he spoke about it a few months back). Johnny Delusional.

PSG fans seem to be worrying about Rashford's pace against their CBs, especially with Marquinhos out.

Apparently Maatsen gave their defence fits last Season, for Dortmund.

Maatsen gave that Forest chap (Yates?) twisted blood for our second on Sat, some more of that would do nicely. Can't see Digne not starting both games though.

And having typed it a few times I've realised what a weird word Wednesday is.

And you in the land of owls and blades!

Think you could argue that we're more likely to be the last English team standing in the Champion's League than Arsenal, which is nice.

And we would still not get a mention on SKY / The Guardian etc

When is 'this Wednesday' in your scenario? Because the one that had just been would be 'last Wednesday'.

The word "Wednesday" originates from the Old English "Wōdnesdæg," meaning "Woden's day," with Woden being the Anglo-Saxon equivalent of the Norse god Odin, a chief deity in Germanic mythology
The other days ...

Monday - Moon (Dydd Llun in Welsh means the same)
Tuesday -  Norse god Tyr (Dydd Mawrth in Welsh, Mawrth = Mars)
Wednesday - Norse/Germanic god Woden / Odin (Dydd Mercher - Mercury)
Thursday - Norse god Thor (Dydd Iau - Jupiter)
Friday - Norse goddess Freyja (Dydd Gwener - Venus)
Saturday - Saturn (Dydd Sadwrn - Saturn)
Sunday - Sun (Dydd Sul - Sun)

:)

Not a surprise that the bookies don't agree with our poll, they've got PSG favourites at 2/5, draw 15/4 and Villa 13/2, to qualify PSG strong favourites at 1/4 and us 57/17.

Off to Paris in the morning hoping to see what would be our greatest result for a long time should we come away with anything other than a loss.
So far I think PSG are the best team I’ve seen in the CL. They’ve had a rest as well so will be fresh. I keep thinking we’ve got no chance but we’ve got Emery so anything is possible.

I can't think I've ever been as nervous about the Villa. Not before a cup final, not about relegation, not (callow youth!) 80-82.

It's great though. I hope I never, ever get used to it.

Kamara needs to do a job on Vitinha, who makes them tick and has a tidy long range shot.

Not seeing that happening as they both play the same position, sitting deep controlling the game. I was thinking SJM would be ideal to get in his face but Vitinha has such quick feet McGinn wouldn't get near him. I'm going to leave it to Unai as I can't see a solution but no doubt he has a plan. He'll bloody need one as if we can stop Vitinha we can get something from the game.

We really need to win or at least compete in the midfield battle so I can see Unai going with our toughest five; Kamara, Youri deep, SJM just in front of them, Ramsey on the left and Rogers on the right. Either Watkins or Rashford up front with the thankless task of pressing them high and the hope of a ball over the top to run on to.

I remember 1982 and never feeling nervous before any of the games, including the final. I went to every home game and the final and never expected anything other than a convincing Villa victory. Now, I'm shaking like a shitting puppy every time I think about this tie and the upcoming FA cup semi-final. Maybe it's an age thing. In 1982 I was only 20 and perhaps the folly of youth coupled with naivete meant that I thought the good times would last for ever. Now I'm 63 and I'm more aware of time passing by and the realisation that the good times don't last and this may be the last chance to watch the mighty Villa re-claim their rightful place at the top of the pile (even though no club has a "right" to be at the top, but you know what I mean).
