Eiran Cashin, what a grand name from the old country. I wonder did he come from Tír na nÓg.

Indeed, my cousin's wife's maiden name was Cashin. My paternal grandmother's maiden name was Caslin.

My Grandma's maiden name was Mulqueen, which I always think sounds even more Irish than my actual Irish-sounding name.

Not sure about that as they'd probably have christened you Steve, if it were your surname.

I've never heard of it before, but it seems to be mainly concentrated in Limerick and Clare.

It's Thursday morning, it's sunny, I have a day off work and Villa thumped Brighton last night.

Same for me and I live in Sussex. Walking around in my claret and blue getting salty looks from the odd person featuring a seagulls logo. More here today than attended the match last night by looks of it. Why oh why do beastly old Aston Villa cheat every time we play them 😂  tbf anyone that beats them have always cheated or not played in the proper spirit of the game lol fuck off 😂

Same here, they were very optimistic yesterday. When they moan about the ref I just use the password Hinshelwood.

Yep, that branch of the family were all Limerick 🙂

My grandmother was a Mulqueen as well.

We had a great time down there last night but getting away from that ground is shit. I only had to get back to west London but got home after 1 so god knows what time fans got back to Brum.

A surprising number of empty seats in the away end which I presume was people who just couldn’t get down midweek but it’s a shame when people are desperate to get to away games.

Very relieved that the heinous VAR decision didn’t influence the result. I still can’t understand how it wasn’t given.

Saw on Max YouTube's vid that Brighton now put on a fan-area near the ground. Was it any cop? It's a pity their ground is so cut-off from town. The old one is just down the road from me. I get my bread from approximately where one of their goalposts used to stand (now Lidl).

Rogers pushing Malen front and centre, McGinn giving his armband to a kid in the crowd AND FV's favourite celebration all at the end.

I have mates from Brighton so we agreed to meet at the Terrace. It seemed good but when I got there it was pretty busy so we had drinks from the roving beer sellers with the beer jetpacks. Crappy Heineken but speedy service compensated for that. For me it fell better and more roomy than the Villa fan zone but I think the upper area is Amex card holders only, which would limit numbers.

I thought we'd lost this thread but now realise the PSG thread got posted. Jim in American Pie lasted longer before shooting his load.

As for the game, two points; for all the shots Forest missed, Martinez had them all covered. His positioning and reaction are world class. He was probably disappointed every shot was off target.

Anybody else see the 1982 winner with Malens's goal? Maatsen twists and turns his defender inside out just like Tony Morley before whizzing a low cross into the 6 yard box for the tap in. Admittedly Marlen's finish was a bit more precise but had all the trademarks of Withe's winner. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come on our European tour.

Shame that Malen won't be available for the final!
