I would really love us to have an anthem but we're a funny lot when it comes to such things. I quite liked how Don't look back in Anger grew out of nowhere and the rendition from the Holte after we beat SH 4-2 was brilliant but I know there was a lot of resentment to it especially on here. Other clubs seem happy to just pick a song that they have no connection to and adopt it as their own- Forests Mull of Kintyre and Stokes Delilah for example. I can't stand either personally but I think it would be great if we could find a song and just go with it. Failing that maybe a musically talented one of our own could come up with something like the Arsenal one I think that's pretty good.  We've heard one or two attempts before but nothing has caught on or deserved to to be honest.

DLBIA is shit and considering the whole 2nd city thing we really should not be picking a Manc song.

Dreamer is the ideal song imo.

There are just loads of better choices from bands that are actually from Birmingham. If it has to be someone not local then Ghost Riders is the one.

But fir the love of McGrath not some shitty Manc wank.
I'm not saying I want that as a Villa anthem I'm saying it was good how it just grew into something at that time and when the Holte sung it after beating SH 4-2 it was something special. It even made it to foreign sports channels if you remember. HEITS will always be sung but it's not exactly an anthem.

I always liked "When you're smiling .."
I used to like that especially waving hands at the end but I don't think the vast majority of the "yout" would have a Scrooby.

If it's a tune from a local band you want I'd be all for The Day We Caught The Train by OCS.

This topic is brought up at least once a year.

The output is always:

Du du du du (insert name)
One (insert name) there’s only one (insert name)
Ohhhhhhh (insert name)

Rinse and repeat

Which is why the search goes on for something unique for us to belt out.

A Stoke fan told me how Delilah came about. A load of them were corralled in some pub surrounded by Police, and the they were told not to sing anymore football songs. So they sang Delilah and it stuck.

I really liked DLBIA and couldn't care less if Oasis were from Manchester, New Hampshire or Lancashire. The rendition after the play-off win was great. It wasn't a contrived thing either, just started by accident at Reading away. Don't mind HEITS but have always thought TBAR is pretty shite.

Not sure if this has been discussed already but what do people think of the PA announcer at VP starting off songs?

I absolutely hate it.

Yippee Aye Eeee at kick off was bad enough but now he’s starting off players songs after goals too.

So long as it doesn't lead to the introduction of music after goals.

My efforts peaked with the ode to Omari Kellyman - Piano Man (Billy Joel) but then he left us, to disappear into the Chelsea vortex yet we're still in the mood for a melody.
