Has any player ever had such a prolific start to his Villa career?

Simon Stainrod, the Asensio of the 80s?

Like all of the very, very best players he has this knack of always being able to find space. Another great finish and assist tonight.

In terms of games, Dublin scored seven in his first three games and nine in his first seven. Asensio has only averaged about 45 minutes per game though so might be more prolific worked out that way.

Asensio averages roughly a goal an hour since he signed, or just under a goal every forty minutes since opening his account.

The fact he's done a lot of it coming off the bench is extra special given Duran was earning the super sub nickname. We've got a better player in the number 9 shirt, and a better super sun now too. It worked out fantastically well for us.

That thing he does when he bursts into space, then just stops in exactly the right spot on the edge of the box, sending the defenders to fetch the papers, and so long as he receives the ball, at that range he can clinically, effortlessly put it exactly where he wants.

That is beautiful.

Yep he's a star alright. It's like the world revolves around him when he comes on.

If he ups his game a fraction and gets a bit of luck, he could be our Dugarry.

I'm surprised he wasn't at that Trevor Francis gig doing a turn, maybe singing Funky Moped or something.

What a player we have. The goal he scored last night showed superb technique, taking that ball first time, coming across him at pace and bobbling, and hitting it with blinding accuracy into the corner of the goal. He is so economical with the ball, he'll play a simple short pass but his brain is steps ahead, his contribution to our first goal v Preston for example, and setting up Malen last night. That he's settled in so quickly  and can so quickly make an impact coming off the bench, shows he has special quality. The likes of Rogers and Ramsey must be learning so much playing alongside this fella.

Autocorrect, but also still technically correct.

Has any player ever had such a prolific start to his Villa career?

Billy Walker started with 13 in 21 games.
Pongo Waring started with 7 in 13 games.
None were off the bench !
