Read elsewhere that Wolves have no interest in signing Diego - looks as though he will be with us until the Summer.

He’s going to Fenerbahce isn’t he?

Isn't the Fenerbache deal stalled / off?

Last I saw Romano was saying it was done. Might have missed an update though.

Oh come on, seriously why would someone that has Barcelona sniffing around (amongst others) who plays Champions League for Villa, seriously leave for a relegation battle at that place?

Other than money, which he'll get more of elsewhere, what's the point?

His agent can't be that stupid either.

Exactly.  Well said

you have answered your own question.
We were primed for CL in the summer, it didnt stop him wanting to go there in the summer.
His agent will be a huge, huge factor here

When Duran leaves, it won't be to the likes of West Ham. Ignoring the fact that they're shite, they can't afford him anyway.

Agents aren't generally stupid, but they are selfish, self-centered and manipulative.
Apologies to any football agents on here.

Is it a case of our work for One in and One out for first team squad balance almost done.
Only 3 new players can be registered for Champs League squad
Bringing in a Champions League experienced player for remainder of season would be astute move.
Perhaps former Real Madrid man Asensio , at PSG, in on loan and Buenida Out

Or is it the 3
Philogene -  Malen
Carlos- Bade
Nedeljković - Garcia

I'm fascinated by the one in one out theory and what squad departures and arrivals will be occurring other than the above.

There's still 17 days to speculate for first team arrivals but maybe it's a total of 4 in 4 out?

I could see Gauci being loaned out and being replaced by an outfield player which make it 5 and 5 but there's not too much more to move on till summer I suspect.

So with the one in one out theory Carlos for Bade
But with Buenida out who else other than Asensio could come in for him?

This isn't quite right. We named 23 in our champions league squad, including Philogene and Ramsey as 'club-trained'.

Since then Malen and Garcia have joined, Barry has come back from loan and Philogene has left, meaning we haven't created any spaces in the squad for either of the new signings yet.

Rumours of Ned out on loan, Carlos being sold and Bade coming in still leaves us with 23 players for the squad but with only 1 club-trained player (Ramsey) meaning we still need 1 more out if we don't want to have players in the squad who are ineligible for CL matches. Buendia going out would solve that.

Therefore:

Buendia -->
<-- Malen

Ned -->
<-- Garcia

Carlos -->
<-- Bade

Philogene -->
<-- Barry (but only on list 'b' so not included in the 3 permissable changes).

To make any further changes we'd still need 1 more out because you only get a 4th registration slot if 5 players from list 'a' leave during the window.

Does Bogarde/Swinkels still not qualify for club trained?

They're young enough for the b list (and will be next year as well).

I'm not writing anything new, but I find it interesting to compare the young players that we were signing from abroad 10-years ago to those that we are signing now. Back then we bringing in players like Amavi, Veretout, Ayew, Traore and Gueye. In terms of outlay and risk, they are arguably the equivalent of Duran, Nedelkovic, Illing-Junior, Barrenechea and Garcia now. Obviously, like all signings, some of these will come off, and others won’t. Without wanting to relitigate that whole era again, I don't think that side of our recruitment strategy back then was inherently bad.

The main difference is that the current cohort have the opportunity to break into the first team, but we aren’t completely relying on them all now, and the others will (hopefully) get good experience out on loan. I suppose the reason that we aren't relying on them all now is the other side of our recruitment strategy. Back then we were also signing more experienced players like Gestede, Lescott, Richards, Crespo, Bunn, Sinclair and Cissokho. Whereas we are now signing (and trying to sign) players like Bade, Malen, Onana, Maatsen, Rogers and Torres.

The recruitment wasn't that bad.  Shite management from the top down was the problem.

All good players, terribly managed, as stated above.
