Aston Villa has now communicated its intention to trigger the €20m release clause in Oscar Mingueza’s contract.
@mundodeportivo

Oooooh I love it when we trigger things !!

Settle down, we appear to have only communicated our intention to trigger.

Only fair to give them an opportunity to prepare to brace themselves for a bid.

Indeed.  I've no doubt that we'll be swooping in to sign him soon, no doubt using our transfer warchest to get the deal over the line before the window slams shut.

PSG can afford to pony up the full release clause and pay big wages, so that story may well have legs.

For Durans obvious talent and star factor, he is more likely to be the next Balotelli than the next Van Basten. If we do get £80m it sees us free of FFP issues for the next couple of seasons and would allow us to sort central defence and right back postions out and still leave plenty in the kitty for good forward that can compete with Watkins.

If Philogene and Carlos go too, I can see us signing 2-3 good players now and still having money to spend in the summer.

If true there might be legs to the minimum  release clause otherwise  they will easily be paying over 80-90m with how long he has left on his contract

Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Tidiam Gomis from SM Caen.
@J_Tanswell

Aston Villa are in advanced talks to sign Tidiam Gomis from SM Caen.

The 18-year-old is highly rated by Villa’s recruitment staff and scouting circles, having signed his first professional contract in September 2022 and made his debut the following year. That made him the fourth youngest player in Caen’s history.

The France youth international has played for every age group between under-16 and under-19, but is out of contract this summer.

Villa will likely pay a small fee for the winger who will be viewed as one for the future, much like Kosta Nedeljkovic when he signed from Crvena Zvezda last season.

A deal has not been finalised but Villa are pushing ahead to complete an agreement. Gomis has made 17 appearances in Ligue 2 this term, scoring twice and registering two assists.

As The Athletic has previously reported, the club wants to sign a versatile forward and a versatile right-back, with talks over a deal with Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen ongoing.

Meanwhile, Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza remains a candidate to sign at right-back. However, Villa are considering a handful of other options with profit and sustainability rules (PSR) still needing to be factored in.

Jaden Philogene underwent his medical at Ipswich Town yesterday, ahead of finalising a move worth £20million plus £3m in add-ons — while other potential departures include Louie Barry and a loan move for goalkeeper Joe Gauci.

Central defender Diego Carlos has interest from Turkey but any move would depend on whether the fee offered is high enough for Villa to accept and be able to find an adequate replacement.

There have been reports linking Villa to a loan for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Milan Skriniar, but any potential move is made difficult by his prohibitive salary.

This is from RMC Sports website, Fabrice Hawkins is one of their journos. It's a Google translation of the original article which is why the English is a bit clumsy.

Paris Saint-Germain is interested in Colombian striker Jhon Duran, who shines at Aston Villa. But the case is not easy for the Parisian club during the winter transfer window.

According to information from RMC Sport, PSG is interested in Colombian international striker Jhon Duran (21 years old). Arriving at Aston Villa in January 2023 for €16 million from MLS and the Chicago Fire, he has seen his rating explode in recent months.

Despite the cutting-edge competition from England's Ollie Watkins, he has already scored 12 goals in 26 appearances this season in all competitions with Unai Emery, and has made his mark with some pearlers

I'll add a little more to that....

"Marco Asensio could leave PSG in the coming weeks. The profile of the Spanish striker interests Aston Villa, who could lose Jhon Duran during this same transfer window.
Marco Asensio heading to the Premier League ? According to our information, the Spanish international, relegated to the PSG bench for several weeks, is of interest to Aston Villa.

British leaders like the versatile profile of the Parisian striker who could strengthen a sector where several Aston Villa players are courted. Starting with the Colombian center forward Jhon Duran , appreciated by several European clubs including... PSG, as revealed by RMC Sport.

Asensio to lower Duran's rating?
If the discussions do not, at this stage, concern a crossover between Asensio and Duran, this mutual interest could allow the Parisian club to lighten the bill in the event that the arrival of the young 21-year-old South American nugget materializes. Because even in the case where the two players were to cross paths between France and England, which is not said, PSG would have to add an additional compensation to conclude the deal.

Arriving as a free agent in the summer of 2023 from Real Madrid , Marco Asensio has only played 18 short minutes in eight games since his last start, during the Parisian victory against Toulouse (3-0) on November 22. He will not be retained by the capital club in the event of an offer."

So PSG are essentially trying to cobble together 2-3 makeweights to buy Duran. £100m or do one. He's going to be sensationally good.
