I'd be happy enough with bogarde filling in for Carlos if it came to it

Kamara might be an option too.

Carlos is like a leaky stand pipe tap. Yeah, you need to replace it, but taking it out without doing do is just going to make things worse.

I love it when you talk leaky stand pipes. Next time you must tell me what they are.

No way, he’s not ready to be one of three starting centre halves.

Well that means zero injuries, no thanks. It would be an insane risk.

Agree Paul, down the spine of the pitch we don’t want to be playing unproven kids…Bogarde, Swinkels, Feeney and Smith all look to be centre halves with potential…wouldn’t fancy a couple of months with any of them as 3rd choice if we are going to pursue Champs League and finishing high on Prem.  I’m also not a huge fan of Carlos but he isn’t he isn’t awful as some seem to paint him out to be.

At the end of 2024, Deco met with Jhon Durán's agent in Barcelona — informal contact, nothing more. Barcelona are closely following his development.
@tjuanmarti

Can't even register the players they do have.

Bogarde is miles off the required standard. Don't see him ever being PL level in all honesty. We have been scouting the RB/RCB position for some time so I expect Monchi should have a few options to replace Carlos and compete with Cash if it comes to it.

It would be staggeringly reckless and I can’t imagine they’re considering it without a replacement.

Emery sold Danny Ings without a replacement in Jan so won't shy away from selling Carlos if we get any kind of bid around 10m.

It was interesting to read a couple of weeks ago that we were close to landing Nicolas Jackson January two years ago in the window where he went to Chelsea. I wonder were we confident of that happening and planning to blood him slowly with under-study time for Ollie while Jackson learned the PL ropes.  And in the process Ings leaving would be somewhat mitigated.

Of course Durán joined the same month but his subsequent development and rise can't have been anticipated.

And in the event we had a stellar spring 2023 with no real replacement for Ollie.
