Well then yeah, odd there's nothing official about the Turkish lad.

Head Dave mentioned the signing in his latest article. That’s about as official as official can be.

I think it might be what CD states, a deal to buy but lets put it into next season budget rather then this one.

That was my thought too. Wasn't he over here and at the Everton game before the Duran sale, so it may have been advantageous to book his transfer on July 1. As he was going back to his cub in Turkey we didn't need to make it official in this window.

He was definitely here for a game, can't remember if it was Everton.

He was at Everton away, sitting in front of Malen and sporting a Villa cap.

I have a terrible fear about all this. I thought we were a wholesome club under Unai and will grow organically. I did't think we would succumb to glare of the limelight of designer brand and morph into a TK Maxx store. So I think by going after  Rashford and Asensio we have made a grave error and somehow it's all about raising the brand profile rather than pure football.

As for other signings, happy about Malen, Disasi and Garcia.

I know what you mean, there is definitely brand profile in the mix somewhere, that's football unfortunately, but I do think that we're clearly at a key point in our recent history - last 16 of the Champions League, some time till the next round we have to play, January transfer window, suffering from injuries and looking tired and inconsistent in the PL, and to take the most from the rest of the season, we had to do something to improve.

As it is hard anyway to sign anyone permanently in January, and what with PSR, loans were the obvious way out from that, and there wouldn't really be much point loaning in potential - we need players who could seriously contribute between now and May.

So whilst I am very doubtful about Rashford, I am very hopeful about Asensio (and the fact we tried to sign him in the summer shows at least continuity of thought), and think we've done the right thing to really exploit where we currently find ourselves.

I absolutely agree with this, and I think it's something I and others I'm sure are particularly sensitive to as Villa fans as it's always seemed that when opportunities have presented themselves we've bottled acting like a big club.

It may not work but it's nice to actually try.

I’d rather shop from this shelf in the transfer supermarket than where we have been. I think we did the right thing in January by cashing in on Duran and reinforcing key areas without making a massive permanent commitment. And if the two big wage earners work out, then we can negotiate with them in the summer on deals that work with our financial position. Rashford has by PL standards a low purchase price and by all accounts PSG want Asensio gone. He’ll have a year left on his contract I think so it won’t be a big price. Disasi will be interesting as Chelsea spent quite a bit on him. So hopefully if he plays well he’s a player we will secure for a decent price if other options we pursued aren’t available.

At a guess, and assuming they all do ok:

If we make the champions league we'll take the option on Rashford.
We'll try to extend the loan for Asensio for next season.
We won't look at keeping Disasi and will instead work on other long-term options.

Emery loves Rashford so I can see him trying to keep him long term whether we make the CL or not as long as they can work out the finances.

First, let's see how he gets on.

I agree but I think the finances would be very difficult, which is why I think he only stays if we can guarantee another big stack of European cash.

Isn’t that obvious? If he’s shit I don’t think the club will commit to the player long term.

For the first time in a very, very long time I feel like the club have given it absolutely everything in a transfer window to try and capitalize on a position of opportunity. They might not all work out, some of it might backfire, but given the constraints of the window and FFP I’m not sure what more they could have done.
