Without wanting to defend that lot, they only withdrew at the request of the FA who wanted them in Brazil for the World Club Championship.

The FA were worried that their bid for the 2006 World Cup would be screwed if they didn't dance to FIFA's tune.

Even in the year those fuckers weren't in it, we drew the team that had been given a bye in their place.

* I know that doesn't mean we'd necessarily have drawn them if they had been in it.

Didn't watch it, but they were one-nil down when they made their fifth sub. They were absolutely right to do what they thought was best to try to take the game to extra-time, rather than going for the heartwarming choice. It's a cup game, not a testimonial.

It's a shame that the arse completely fell out of Aberdeen, or that league (or, at least, the race for the second Champions League spot) could have been quite good fun.

I seem to remember Hearts doing something similar a while back (not the Albert Kidd year), barnstorming the first half season then sinking like a stone.

That was the Graham Rix season when it turned he was a bit of a wrong’un.

Oh yes, and they had an owner that was a bit mental as well.

According to El Ancasti (and reproduced in The Poke), a local Argentinian paper:

Quote
The words “syphilis outbreak” conjure images of Victorian brothels frequented by gin-swigging dock hands and opium-addled poets.

Unless you’re employed by Argentine side Boca Juniors, where Miss Siff is very much a going concern.

According to local press, the entire squad and coaching staff have been summoned to a health clinic to be swabbed for the venereal disease, after three players tested positive.

It’s not clear who the guilty parties are, but among the players nervously queuing at the Buenos Aires branch of Bupa are ex-Man United stars Edison Cavani, Marcos Rojo, and Sergio Romero.

The new Primera División season kicks off in two weeks when Boca face Argentinos Juniors. Our money’s on the side without genital sores.

Watching Dortmund v Leverkusen  to pass some time before we start.
Leverkusen take the lead after 29 seconds with a goal Duran would be proud of.

And now 0-2 after 7 minutes. Our mate Malen might have to come on at this rate.

Bloody hell Lincoln. You had one job. BTW can’t they afford under-pitch heating at the Sty?

There’s a Cadamarteri starting up front for Lincoln, presume it’s Danny’s son?

They'll be bigger than us in five years but they still can't fill that stadium

Having a great time here in me kitchen watching Celtic and singing along with a marvellous rendition of The Boys From The Old Brigade.

Don't get singing along inadvertently on the 29th. There's a couple of us already thought about that.....arf!
