Probably an unpopular view, but I can think of worse outcomes than Newcastle winning their first trophy in six decades.

If they were owned by almost anyone else I'd be fine with it.

I was with Top Deck, then you reminded me that horrible detail.

Arsenal prove once again that they're not to be trusted in the League Cup.

Yes, I’ve never forgiven them for that

We came from 2 down at Highbury in 1996 didn’t we?
The second leg was a dull affair.
No. It was the most exciting  0-0 ever.

Newcastle's run of form got me thinking earlier.  If you have the potential to finish in a Champions League spot, are you better missing out on European football altogether if you don't make it and going again the next season with a much less congested fixture list?

Take Newcastle - were in the Champions League and it probably affected them to the point they missed out on Europe altogether this season.  They've come back this season and without the added workload of a European competition, look good contenders to get into the Champions League again as well as challenging for a domestic cup.

It got me thinking whether we would be better off missing out on Europe altogether if we don't make the Champions League this season and regrouping to try and push for it again the season after?  I have enjoyed the European nights over the past two seasons though and if we don't make the Champions League this time around, would like us to have the opportunity to have a real go at winning the Europa or Conference League (again!).

No. I want as many opportunities to win trophies as possible.

Watched the game last night - thought the commentator were desperate for Arsenal to win, Newcastle did park the bus / coach for the last 30 mins.

Still think that Arsenal could get to the final.

Newcastle  are gonna win it aint they? 😢
They've built a good squad , the likes of Barnes off the bench is very decent

They havent really added much to their side. The having no europe really is benefitting them. No doubts in my mind of there was no ffp they would ein absolutely near enough everything
Tonali back and some decent kids stripping up . Plus they didn't have to cash anyone out in the summer .
.eddie howe done a brilliant job there i must say

Is the correct answer. Though can see the logic in tom's post.

I think NUFC having the cash resources to retain players in a non euro competition year has helped as well. A euro dormant year for us might not work out so advantageously.

I agree with that and as I say, have enjoyed being back in European competition the past two seasons.  I'm not confident that the Champions League will be a regular thing, but think a crack at the Europa League would be a pretty exciting prospect next season.

I also think Wilson being out for so long has helped them. Isak knows he is playing every week and the team also know and are playing one style of forward. A bit like when Watkins and the team really picked up playing to one style of attack.
