Technically, no.

I suppose in a billion to one chance of PSG losing both of their matches to Citeh and Stuttgart and everyone else losing / winning in the right order and the right amount of goals we don't.

I buggered it up, and I don't like the incorrect counting of asterisks.

I bet some these big boys regret suggesting a super league now. They got their wish and alot of them have flopped

They didn't really get their wish though as that was the 8 or 10 teams just play each other over and over and over......

With no chance of missing out. So there's no way Man U and Chelsea wouldn't have been involved, for instance.

I think i read they wanted a league of 16 granted  its not as big as the current format but this format certainly does not benefit any team on group stage as you draw same teams from same pots. Even if you are seeded it doesnt help you at all.

The old format definitely helped the elites

This format is alot fairer in my opinion

They wanted to grow it to 16 with those ones selected by "the founders" but not guaranteed each season, and founders did not get kicked out.

You are right about this format being "fair" but don't confuse it with what the clubs wanted a few years ago which was totally different and definitely not fair to anyone outside the founders.

Yeah fair enough. I agree with all of that esp the last sentence.

I initially at first this format was worse on paper but in reality its far better and fairer. When they scrapped away goals years ago that also benefited the bigger sides in my opinion

Man City and PSG being absolutely shite and still (in all likelihood) getting into the playoffs, means it can still work in favour of big clubs. They’d both be out under the old format.

I do prefer this format though.

Yes but…..
It will need an event of biblical proportions to eliminate us. We have to lose both and about 5 teams have to win both matches which is not possible as some are playing each other.

Hard to say that as they wouldn't have been playing each other, or Inter / Bayern. And then they would have been playing the "lesser" clubs home and away. I expect they would have finished 2nd in their groups personally.

It is still technically possible, even with the teams playing each other.

Villa lose vs Monaco and Celtic
Dortmund get at least a point from Bologna/Shakhtar
Bayern Munich get at least a point from Salzburg/Feyenoord
Atletico Madrid get at least a point from Leverkusen/Salzburg
Milan get at least a point from Girona
Atalanta get at least two points from Sturm Graz/Barcelona
Juventus beat Benfica
Benfica beat Barcelona
Sporting get at least three points from Leipzig/Bologna
Feyenoord get at least three points from Bayern Munich/Lille
Club Brugge beat Juventus
Real Madrid get at least four points from Salzburg/Brest
Celtic get at least a point from Young Boys
Man City beat PSG and Club Brugge
PSV beat Red Star and Liverpool
Dinamo Zagreb beat Arsenal and Milan
Stuttgart beat Slovan Bratislava and PSG

Would leave them all above us or level with us on points so we could finish below them on goal difference, albeit would probably have to get thrashed at least once.

But even if only biblically, it is still possible that everyone between us and Stuttgart (bar Man City who will be out with us)* could finish above or level on 13 points. And if we lose both our games 3-0, our GD will probably put us at the bottom of the 13 pointers (especially with us having one the lowest goals scored of those around us).

So the answer is still technically no.

*when initially checking, I thought stuttgart was playing someone else and not PSG, CD is correct.

It's a League, it will NEVER happen. Far too many teams in worse position than us. One or two or 3 may do better BUT not everyone.

I agree, the set of circumstances won't happen, but TECHNICALLY (mathematically) we are not down as being qualified officially. Only Liverpool and Barca have that honour.
