It is not like his importance hasn't been noticed previously. Their win record without him after smaller injuries / suspensions proved that in the past. It is why it is so incredulous he has been overlooked so many times for POTY awards.

Given we're all very aware of it, shouldn't they be? And shouldn't they have a half-decent backup plan?

It's amazing how important Rodri is to that team. All that money and they're literally one midfielder's fitness issues away from abject collapse.

Bit like us when Kamara isn't at full speed.

I think they have been aware, but just who do you get in who is on par with him. it looked like Kovacic was the backup when Rodri wasn't picked, but he got injured during the international break as well. And with KDB and Stones looking like playing two matches on the bounce is too much, they are then relying on less experienced players to be leading them.

Wasn't Kalvin Phillips supposed to be the back up for Rodri? How did that turn out?

It was all going well until they asked him to play football.

It's another example of confidence, being in the right team at the right time (and the reverse of that).  He isn't a bad player.  He fucked his career up by going to Man City, at least from a playing perspective, and won't be the only one.  Grealish, a much much better footballer, has done similar.

I imagine Grealish thinks he made the right decision going there given what he's won

It's a shame Citeh have gone to shit at the same time as us. Takes the edge off the schadenfreude.

Didn’t we bid £20 mill for Calvin Philips once when he was highly regarded

Apparently we were keen at around £15m when he was just getting started at Leeds, then for about three times that under Gerrard when he eventually went to Man City.

Would probably have been a decent deal, then. He was pretty good before Man City ruined him.

He'd be right, too.

Is Guehi a homophobe too? Ironic, given his name. What’s he written on his armband?
