It's quite sad that I know off the top of my head that Hughes got 62 caps.

Does anybody else remember the weird day time TV quiz show he was on called Box Clever? A weird mix of a questions and a sort of computer game maze.

Main reason they play more recently is they qualify for tournaments, unlike the 70s when the only did for the 1970 WC.

There are also far more qualifiers now after the break up of the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia.

And we used to have to the British Championship.

Random non tournament years, 1977 11 games, 1983 11 games, 1997 11 games, 2005 11 games, 2013 12 games, 2023 10 games.

On Carsley's abilities I'd certainly be very interested to read anyone who has (a) watched a load of the under-21s under Carsley and (b) thinks he'll do a bad job. Or a good job. I've watched none of the under-21s, so I'm pretty comfortable knowing that I don't have a clue about how good or bad Carsley is, beyond the fact that he won the Euros last year. Which at the very least suggests that he knows how to manage a team in a tournament, how to manage the egos of young millionaires who are normally rivals, how to set a team up etc. It's not like they're sticking you or me in charge.

Obviously U21 opponents but this shows some of his attempted styles.

I'd forgotten that Ash had a "Dirt Den" episode.

I find it hard to believe that Ashley Young murdered a cabbie whilst on international duty.

As a former seminarian of a Jesuit sect, I was instructed that choking your chicken was a mortal sin which would damn the sinner to eternal damnation if unconfessed.

Yet somehow, it didn't put anyone off.  8)

I believe the seminarians got around it by getting someone else to 'choke their chicken'.

Ray Wilkins would have been another who'd have smashed through 100 caps nowadays , perfect fit for the Southgate era .

Lively start in the France-Belgium game with the hosts all over the place. Digne booked, and Onana lucky not to get injured.
