So Jaden Philogene is signed for Ipswich
Didn't we have first buy back option?

Don't think it's finalised yet and we supposedly have 24 hours to match the offer.

Not a buy back option as such.

I think that it was a three day window (expiring today) to match a bid.

Fucked if I can find the Coutinho thread. Anyway, good night, sweet prince.

Not ideal, but about £7m off the wage bill.

I doubt they can afford to pay even half of that. And we still have him for another year after next season.

I reckon there's no chance they are paying most of his wages.

Yeah, the fact we haven't done a permanent deal suggests they weren't willing to pay much of his wages and Coutinho wasn't willing to sacrifice much of his wages.

We will be paying for this, but slightly less than other options.

Both clubs were originally looking at releasing him out of his contract but it proved too difficult so a loan move was done instead, but he's apparently taken a big pay cut to join them so I don't think we'll be paying him much, if anything.

Sadly I doubt that's true.

If he was willing to take a significant pay cut where we were hardly paying anything I think we’d have released him.

On the flip side, that would crystallise a £9m loss on the balance sheet.

BE is right, we don’t know which option is financially the best one for the Villa. But the Villa do.

Yes, which had to be offset against savings in salary to make worthwhile.

So if we are still paying his salary it’s best to keep that £9m split across two years as there’s no incentive to do otherwise.
