Is it too soon to start looking at the dates of the QF ties?

No, as long as you don't book the flights and hotel.

Yes, look quietly, don't share your results and don't book a single fucking thing until we're through. Thank you.

The home game against Bruges is on Virgin Media 2 next week. Arsenal game is relegated to their More channel.

The Less channel would be more appropriate.

Opta computer doing its weirdness.

Updated Opta after first leg matches.

After the first leg at Paris, they seem to think Liverpool are easily through AND have actually increased their chances of progressing now we are their more likely opponents.

Opta probably thinks their name is on the cup now after the events on Wednesday night.

Nope, it's nothing to do with us and everything to do with them having a first leg lead. Our chances percentages are higher across all 4 for the same reason, they've risen inline with the increase of winning in this round.

Arsenal are the simplest example. They've gone from 74.5% to 100%, so an increase of 33% from the previous value.
from there the following columns are:
40.9 > 52.5 (28%)
20.5 > 25.2 (23%)
11.6 > 13.8 (19%)

The impact lessens as more variables are added (i.e the more games to play) but every value is increased relative to the current round.

The one thing that will make me very happy in a Keiran Kieran Ciaran Clarke Clark kind of way after Wednesday night regardless of the outcome is that I will hopefully see very little of the word Brugge again. To my knowledge there are no Flemish speaking people on this site so why it ever appeared in the first place is a complete mystery.

Yours forever
In Bruges.

The locals were telling us that it is pronounced Broo- her, but that they can't understand people from 20 miles away and they would pronounce it differently.

It sounds like a country where there are very strong local differences and rivalries, similar to the Black Country (in my experience). Which may explain why those talented national team players never win anything.

The short answer about Bruges V Brugge is that Brugge is the Flemish/Dutch spelling and that most people in Brugge are Flemish. Antwerp or Antwerpen is more common than Anvers for the same reason. Or Mechelen rather than Malines. And the g in Flemish/Dutch is like an h, or more like the ch sound at the end of 'loch'.

Did some work with Ministry of Education in the French speaking part of Belgium, they knew nothing of what went on in the Flemish speaking part and less of what went on in the German speaking part. All three areas had their own separate department of education and I am presuming their own department of everything else as well. I tried to ask a few questions about the other area but they did not want to talk about it. I think after the last election it took them about 6 months to set up a govt.

That’s mad!

I was working with Belgian companies 15-20 years ago and remember that Flemish speakers generally spoke some French whereas the Wallons spoke no Flemish. As a result the unemployment rates were much lower for the Flemish population as they could work across the country. No idea if that is still the case.

All sounds about right. We're in education and have offices in Belgium and, as above, we have to have separate versions of our products for Flanders and Wallonia, not just because of language but because they have very different needs, it's really odd. In my experience the Flanders side is much easier to work with.
