Can you name me another player who has scored two goals from direct corners in one season in the last 12 months?

Thats remarkable he was even able to achieve it

Haha! So now what you're saying is you want us to find a replacement who will score twice direct from a corner?

And where did you make that observation from my post 😂

I was going to to go into detail, but can't be arsed.

Oh ok so i didnt say that then. Thanks for confirming.

I was merely just pointing out to the strengths of dougie and what our side will be missing as i rate him highly.

Looking at the BBC sport headlines, they show the headlines on the back pages of the Daily newspapers - the Daily Mail headline is "why clouds are gathering at Villa"

The article is behind a pay wall - may be an interesting read, if anyone can access the story.

Try this:

https://www.removepaywall.com/https:/www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13735785/Premier-League-Aston-Villa-Sir-Alex-Ferguson.html
typical OTT crap in the week preceding the season-start.

I don’t think it’s over the top at all. I think it’s really balanced outside of the headline.
I thought it was a good article, the headline was stupid - the gamble isn't a gamble at all - we had no choice - FFP doing it job and stopping any team from challenging the cartel.

These rules need to be got rid of completely anti-competitive and a complete mockery when sanctions are only applied to certain clubs.

By picking up he scored two goals from corners in 5 years? Seems to be the only point you picked out of my post which showed Tielemans numbers were close to Dougie's based on minutes played. And Tielemans pen scoring is on par with Luiz as well across his career.

The valid point you do make is his availability. And it seems Luiz was top of our chances created stats, but he was at half of the ones above him and for our team, one of the lowest in the prem. I suspect that was because we had those spread more evenly about our team then say Manure where it pretty much all went through Fernandez.

The rules are poorly constructed, yes. They absolutely shouldn’t be got rid of. Football clubs have proved time and again they can’t be expected to run themselves sensibly and the financial jeopardy of relegation etc is arguably too great to truly plan for. Add the fact that without some controls on spending you’d just have football become a race to find the richest state sponsor (ie Newcastle would just win every year), which is arguably even more anti competitive than it currently is

I didnt mention the corners, you did and i said name me a player thats managed to do that. Just to add some context to the post. Im talking about his overall  game and consistency.

Luiz scored 15 and 11 assists in two seasons for us and was getting better as each season went on. He played in more than 30 games in those last two.

Also do not forget how good he was on the ball and he quickly he would get the ball forward.  He is going to be a massive loss for us this season.

The issue with the rules isn’t necessarily the rules themselves. It’s the starting point. Some teams will invariably have an advantage. We have an advantage over other teams also. But the clubs we are trying to catch up to have built massive squads, enjoyed in many cases tangible success over many years through exploiting the rules (or lack thereof), and amassed wealth through brand exposure across the world and via financial/corporate agreements that wouldn’t have happened had they not exploited the rules at the time or the success they enjoyed. It’s hard to bridge the gap now.

Sorry - I was saying all rules should be got rid of - just the FFP in its current guise isn't fit for purpose.  Man City have been able to further amass trophies and millions whilst they have 115 charges against them.

Clubs can be 100ms in debt - but fine to spend based on there revenue.  Which is only 1 measure of sustainability.  Debt is another but that doesn't suit many other clubs.  Its damaging our game - with youth players being nothing more than ways of handling FFP.  Its damaging the competitiveness of the league and our home-grown players.

Yep I agree with that too. The debt was accumulated and the rules introduced to protect the clubs/owners from themselves. And supposedly to create a more level playing field. But by then the horse was out of the barn. Chelsea and Man City had stolen a match because of their owners and how they accessed their wealth. And the clubs chasing ran up debts trying to keep or. Man U probably being the most visible example despite all their success. And further down the chain, clubs bankrupted themselves to stay in the PL or get into it. And it hasn’t been limited to England. It’s happened elsewhere.

Financial institutions have ways of managing corporate excess by utilising smart financial covenants, the problem is that the Football Authorities have tried and failed to reinvent the wheel.

Harry Burrows did it against Leyton Orient in Orient's one and only appearance in the first division IIRC circa 1962/63.  I was there.
So was I: it was my first ever game, and the reason for my user name. I hadn't realised it was straight from a corner though. I was nine, and my Dad had left my friend and me at the front next to the pitch while he went back for a better view. You could do that then. My friend and I missed the goal as we were distracted, and miles from the far corner with a really poor view. Suddenly there was a huge noise and everone was happy! Blink and you miss it... Didn't Steve Staunton also score from a corner against Norwich on the last day of the season at Carrow Road? Villa had to draw to stay up, and Norwich were already down. Both sets of fans were singing 'Chase Out!'. Or is that another case of False Memory??

May'95, Stan scored at Norwich in a 1-1 final day game although Palace's result meant we were safe anyway. Not sure it was direct from a corner though.

I think Staunton scored from a corner early on in 94/95, I only remember because I was sat in the Lower North as the Holte was being rebuilt.  That might have been against Palace actually.

Yea, let’s find those blue moon events because that’s how the League is won.
