We now appear to have strength in depth, options to change the system with players who are suited to it.

I do wonder if the likes of our captain will see less game time now. The pressure is on for them all.

I disagree slightly. We are overloaded for options on the left wing and centre mid, but the right is quite bereft with Bailey and Cash being the main first teamers in that role, with Cash having either a kid or a CB as replacement (and for all Percy's stats, I would prefer Konsa in the centre instead of Carlos). Also with Diaby gone, no obvious cover for Bailey. We also have no viable cover for Watkins either and Left CB doesn't have cover until at least Sept/Oct.

Yes agreed we look very strong on the left hand side of the pitch generally, only ‘ok’ really right side.

I take it we’re ignoring the stories about Lukaku, can’t see any credible sources myself and hope it doesn’t happen. Another with a long history of twattishness.

Philogene is the backup on the right I suspect, and if he'd had no prior association to us I suspect 12 goals and 6 assists in 32 appearances in the championship would be causing a lot more excitement. Just for context those figures are comparible to the last championship seasons of Bowen, Eze and Olise.

Right back is more complicated but, from what I've seen, I suspect Ned will play a bigger part than many seem to expect.

Maatsen looks a fine player with his best years ahead of him, but I wonder if we really wanted him at this stage or if he was available and we just went for it for the future, given that we already have 2 x fine LBs and we look much lighter on the right.

Moreno is over 30 and was poor last season after his come back. Digne is equally a geriatric at 30 and on huge wages. One of them will be going.

Yeah, I think Iling Jr is the replacement reserve leftback and also the left-footed option for further forward. Basically replacing Moreno and Zaniolo in that regard.

It's been pretty clear for a while that Emery wasn't perfectly content with his fullback options. Maatsen was the first step to resolving the left back and I agree with Monty, that I also think Iling Junior will become the Maatsen alternative once he's settled and we've been able to move some players on. Unless someone comes in for Cash, it might be another year before he gets the right back he wants, with Nedeljkovic being involved. I'm not writing KKH off yet either, Emery seems to rate his attacking qualities but wants his defensive qualities to be better. He might become the right back Emery wants us to have.

He was on huge wages for where we were, the arse end of the table, he'll be on the going rate for where we are now, or who we want to replace him with.

We need to progress, whether that's big steps or small incremental ones. When players become available, and we need to make deals to cope with PSR, we'll do business.

I wonder whether we'd normally have been after Maatsen, or if it's just part of the manoeuvring with selling them Kellyman.

Geriatric! We mustn't bring back Mings then, and Martínez can go too.

Agree Moreno was poor when used but Digne considering a lot of thought he was going before the season was excellent and full of running.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see one or both go but if it’s a choice I’d keep Digne over Moreno

30 is not old for a footballer who looks after himself. If it is in the Prem because of the league they could ply their trade in Italy for another 5 or 6 years comfortably.
I like moreno and Digne but if we need to keep one it’s Digne for me.

Whoever's at left back, having a fit and healthy Ramsey ahead of them makes a big difference with the amount of defensive work he gets through.

Yup. I'd imagine that his equivalent player at the sort of club that we supposedly aspire to be isn't going to be earning any less than he is.

I like Digne and would be more than happy for him to stay after the season he's just had.  Prob need to add a year or two to his contract just to retain a bit of sell on value.
