Chelsea agree a fee of £33m with Atletico for Gallagher. They prefer to sell him abroad despite Villa offering £45m last month. Fair enough, we did the same with Luiz.

That’s a hell of a result for us….45m for someone who just runs into people would be criminal :-)

Neither barkley nor tielemans are Luiz quality I'm afraid, and neither are capable of posting Luiz's numbers from last season.

Hopefully the goals will be spread amongst our attackers but it's a worry imo
Oh I agree.  But they will be playing his role, along with Onana, but I presume Onana will be playing more the Kamara role, at least for the first half of the season.  Together they are his replacement.

I simply don't believe that report.  I can't imagine for one moment that Chelsea would take a £12m hit.  I suspect it was either Gallagher didn't want to come or that we just moved on and got Onana instead.

Midfield is a bit weird. I don't think we have a 4 that will be better than Kamara, Luiz, McGinn and Bailey were at their very best last season but the drop off if our 'best' 4 aren't available will be far less and we saw that 4 at their best about 5-6 times all season so I don't think we're weaker over the course of the season but maybe the highs won't be quite as good. I do think we can address that with the right replacements for Carlos and Diaby though.

We were still capable of beating a title-challenging Arsenal away from home with the McGinn-Tielemans pair in midfield. That was quite a nice high that ultimately proved essential for us getting 4th spot.

It’s difficult to judge until we see the team play with Watkins up top…you take last night opponent knew with Rogers playing they could squeeze up and take away the area for the midfield to play.  Absolutely key how we finish the window off…a quality centre back and good deputy for Watkins and we will have options

Emery's comments about Mings were quite telling about his position on centre backs -

"We are without two players [centre-backs]. One is recovering and close to starting to train with us again when we are back in Birmingham, [that] is Tyrone Mings. We have in the squad as well Konsa, but he is not here because of when he finished with his national team.

"He is coming back with us next week. We are without those two players. I think Tyrone Mings is going to be available after September, hopefully even available in September to play and to train normally. With Konsa, we have enough centre-backs."

Think we would need to move Carlos on before we would bring someone in.

So he either means one of Swinkels or Feeney steps up or Onana can fill in in an emergency

I think he means when Mings is back we have 4 centre backs and that's enough.

Think to expect Mings to come back and be immediately at it is a stretch….if we replace Carlos with a much better quality option with Mings & the younger players as the 4th option…with so much football this season we need 4 maybe 5 centre halves who can be trusted

This matches the reports that have been around saying we are only going to buy a new CB if Carlos is sold.

On the Lukaku rumour - like, no offence, but I've never even heard of Il Mattino.

Is he related to this guy?

It's the main Neapolitan daily paper.

He's not mobile enough for the PL anymore, Lukaku (not Immobile, though he probably wouldn't do much better).
