Really, being Dutch and not having played much (for Chelsea) I thought this might be a chance to bag a bargain.

Dortmund want him to stay but not at the price quoted, they're asking £40m+.

If Gallagher is a genuine possibility, and the Barkley rumours are true, we could have a problem keeping all of our midfielders happy next season.  Assuming we continue playing in a formation that utilises three "midfielders", those three could come from McGinn, Tielemens, Kamara (when fit), Barkley, McKennie, Gallagher, Ramsey and Rogers.  All will have a legitimate reason to believe they are a first-11 player.  Brilliant strength in depth, but there is no way we can keep them all happy (unless you consider Ramsey and Rogers more like wide-forward alternatives to Bailey and Diaby).

What a lovely problem to have.  But I suspect it would mean another one heading out...

Depends on whether they buy into the team ethos or not. Also this season showed how unlikely it is for any team to have a completely full strength side to choose from all season long. Plenty of opportunities for multiple players throughout the season. I suspect Emery would have rotated more than he did in the second half of the season if he'd been able to.

I think he also wants options to change the way we play in game, as the 5 subs rule gives him even more opportunity to make a mug of lesser counterparts.

I felt that was something we were seriously lacking last season. There didn't seem to be much of a plan B at times, beyond different players doing the same thing or just pure chaos for 20 minutes at the end.

Maybe we will play three 8s and they kinda rotate, so one sits (rests) whilst the others press. Tactically it might make us more flexible and give us a Plan B.
We sort of did this last season and I think it's definitely an option if we have more versatile and physically athletic players to work with.

The Grauniad quotes us as wanting £40m for Duran if Chelsea want him. It seems that Jhon is not keen to stick around waiting for Ollie to get injured.

Aston Villa have left-back transfer in their 'sights' amid €20m bid claim
The latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as the Claret & Blues are linked with Rennes man

Aston Villa remain interested in Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert – having had a €20 million bid rejected in the 2023 winter transfer window.

That’s according to French outlet L’Equipe who say Villa tried to buy the 22-year-old lodging what they claim was ‘a significant offer’ for a player who has played for France and was named by Thierry Henry in the preliminary squad for this summer’s Olympic Games.

Looks like we’re sniffing out the possibility of signing him.

The view of Football Italia Editor Lorenzo Bettoni on Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior.
I now don't want Weston McKennie.

There’s that stat that we ran less than any team last season, pressed less and were basically bone idle most of the time.

Maybe we will play three 8s and they kinda rotate, so one sits (rests) whilst the others press. Tactically it might make us more flexible and give us a Plan B.

?

Hope not.

Even in December we lost Kamara for those three games over xmas. Couldn't keep clean sheets v Burnley or Sheffield United and collapsed defensively at Man. United second half.

Before that it was clean sheets galore v Arsenal, Man. City etc.

With Kamara in the team last season in prem it was played 20, conceded 23.

Without him played 19, conceded 38.....

Even the first game of the season he missed away to Bournemouth we looked very shaky that day at the back and could've conceded more than twice.

You can't really dismiss those stark figures as just "Olsen in goal" or all our players were massively fatigued when you see us conceding significantly more without Bouba in December.

He needs to be replaced.

I reckon McKennie will play holding mid until Kamara is back.

He never played there at Leeds. It was either Tyler Adams or Marc Roca as DM. McKennie is supposed to be a SJM type but looked terrible for Leeds which has put me right off this signing.

Leeds were a basket case
