15m for a defender that will be 33 in October sounds a bit mad to me.

Sometimes I wonder how much other football people watch. Granted, everyone's entitled to their opinion and all that. But I don't know - how can you watch the game in general and not notice how good Douglas Luiz was for at the very least half this season? Like, what more are you expecting?

A decent second half. His passing, work rate and attitude hasn't been right for me the second half. If someone offered £60m for him I think we could ease FFP and find better.

I don't think we'd get that much for Digne with the wages he's on tbh. He's a very good player, but reckon £10-£15m tops.

No idea whether we are back in for him again but they demanded 15m Euro's last year and we pissed Sevilla off because we were offering nowhere near that. Since then he's had a bad hamstring injury and then been out of favour. He's a year older and a year less on his contract. If there's any truth to us being back in for him again, it won't be for 15m.

The 3 rumours that are/have been circulating quite strongly could be seen as direct replacements for the chaff:  Hermoso/Lenglet, Barkley/Dendoncker and Acuna now allowing us to sell (probably) Digne (who looked as thoough he'd already left in the 1st half of the Liverpool game.  With Nedeljkovic already in we can wave goodbye to Chambers. The quoted price for Acuna is 15m euros, Hermoso is a freebie and Barkley is a "snip", the fee we could get for Digne (£18-20m?) and Dendo (£3-5m) seems like good business to me.

Which makes me assume it's nonsense. That was the quoted price a year ago, he's now 32 rather than 31 and his contract expires in 12 months not 24 months.

It's not impossible we'd be signing him, but it won't be for the same amount of money we were supposedly signing him for last summer.

All of that screams "free transfer" to me.

Or at the very least, "nominal fee". I'm fairly on the record that Digne should stay and there shouldn't be any reason to sell him any more than anyone else in our first eleven, but if he is seen as some sort PSR-solving cheat-code, or he's keen to go back to France then I can see it might make sense to get £15m for him, lose £120k per week in wages and replace him with a £3-4m equivalent costing £70k per week in wages.

But definitely not on the numbers in the current links.

Exactly where I am. I still think Digne will be here next season though.

I get it about reducing the wage bill and ffp etc, but just on playing ability, Digne was one of our most consistent performers last season.

If Hermoso gets announced, he might be that defensive left-back who can play the left side of a back 3 when in possession. With Moreno as the attacking left back option. That scenario might be one that sees Digne get moved on.

Well it’s not an idea. It’s debating what you’d do if Tim had to sell a star player.
Ok, I see. I guess you ment Unai not Tim

No. TimVilla is in change of our finances next year.

Thats us fucked then...

...😘

Wow. Just wow.   :D

I honestly don’t you have been paying attention  to how good Dougie was for the vast majority of last season and actually since Emery came in October 2022.

It does seem like some people have the memory of a goldfish, doesn't it?

Please no Acuna, no Barkley regardless of the fee. Far too old and both will be looking for a comfortable well paid last contracts.

If you were building your squad on that age profile I’d agree, but we’re not. We do need some experience and players to build out the squad. Barkley is 30, which is absolutely fine for the role we need.
