Reports that we've bid €18 million for RCF's favourite, Semih Kilicsoy.

Rudy has me pumped for this so if he fails it is all his fault.

Rudy can't fail.

I'm certainly not going to fail on news from 6 weeks ago.

Unless it was recycled, there was another report about it last night.

Who knows, it's transfer window time, people write what they want, it's tricky/near impossible to get to the truth. What I read back in early July is we tabled an €18m bid which was knocked back but returned with a €30m and never heard a thing. My guess now is and from reading the Turkish sites, is we were probably told to come back with €30m, thus the silence. There's nothing online in Turkey about the Villa & Fulham bids yesterday/this week. That can always change however though I won't be holding my breath today.

Jesting aside, I think that, if you argue that Konsa at rightback worked, then what you're saying (or what I'm saying) is that he is now, effectively, a rightback as well as a centreback. Cuellar was definitely a centreback on the right, which worked....less well.

Seems ridiculous after all the signings made but I look at that lineup today and it still feels like we’ve got a fair bit to do before the end of the month.

I felt looking at us on Wednesday that we were short. Defensively we're not very robust, and while Rogers has planted a flag for his role in the first XI, we're lacking a player who exudes what they call "main character energy", aside from our goalkeeper.

That’s because other than Onana and Maatsen, I doubt any are first choice and Onana is just replacing Luiz (not like for like I know). So in reality we’re Diaby less than last year, have maybe slightly upgraded left back and are slightly down in centre mid. So while the squad is stronger, this first team hasn’t really moved much at all

If we were to sell Carlos, keep Cash, count Konsa as a CB, and sign this new guy we're linked with at RB, that would leave us with 2 experienced RBs, Nedeljkovic, who might stay or go on loan, and Konsa who could play there if needed.

That doesn't feel like overly stocked to me. Unless I'm forgetting someone?

RB: Cash, NewGuy (Nedeljkovic/Konsa)
CB: Konsa, Torres, Mings
LB: Digne, Moreno

I don't see Nedeljkovic going out on loan, seems pretty much part of the first team picture.

Yup reckon he’ll be part of first XI picture and so he should, he’s got a bit of everything so let’s give him a chance

I haven't seen every minute he has played this pre-season, but he absolutely does look the part.

I suggested loan simply because he is still young and hasn't played in the league before, and also just as a possible explanation for why we might be looking at another RB.

He does seem to have had a decent pre season though. If Mings isn't ready to play, which I'd assume at this point, he isn't, then I'd still be counting Konsa as a CB. So we have Cash, very experienced, and Nedeljkovic, with huge potential but still basically unproven, so signing another RB wouldn't be that out there, for me anyway. Rotate Cash and the other guy, give Nedeljkovic minutes in every game, sell Cash in January. Bish, bash, bosh.

you say 'unproven' but his playing record to date is still quite impressive. From what I saw today, I'd say Kosta may well be first-choice when we want to play a proper right back (as opposed to a CB at RB).

I’d like to see us copying the top European sides and giving kids a chance earlier, if he played for Dortmund, Ajax, etc, etc he’d be given a chance without thought thats he’s 18

I'm not against giving him a shot. I just mean in relation to the idea that we're stockpiling RBs, I see it more as a case of us having a few players at different levels of experience.
