Chelsea's buying & selling of players, over the past few years is anything but a beacon of success. So I wouldn't hold much interest in their decision not to sign Felix. I prefer Emery's opinion.

I think we'll know one way or another in the next 48 hours.

And, it's a different manager now at Chelsea.

Part of the cover on the right, in these pre-season games, has been KKH: maybe Emery sees him as a more robust alternative to Bailey; as well as having Philogene as an option.

What has Felix ever done? I don't remember him being anything other than ordinary when he was on loan at Chelsea

Well he has a career record of a goal or assist roughly every 2.4 games. If Atlethico hadn't overspent on him his record would be the sort to have everyone thinking he could take a step up to be world class. His biggest problem is the weight of that fee hanging over him.

Players with different attributes that are hard to compare. Dougie brings a metronomic quality to the midfield passing, creating time and space (and with it, control). Tielemans brings more vertical penetration in his passing. Neither can tackle.

Tielemans can't run either. The world's oldest 26 year old I recall a poster calling him, well into last season too. I remember him playing next to Luiz, Kamara must have been injured, at Bournemouth back in December. We might aswell have had a traffic cone in midfield next to Luiz. When he played in the Ramsey role on the left, he was a disaster too. Emery eventually found him a role up next to Watkins and that's fine when we have lots of possession. But out of possession even there he was a liability, struggles to press from the front. A good option to have further up the pitch, don't get me wrong, but replacing Luiz as a second 6, no chance for me.

Im really struggling to see how any combination of our new midfield options replaces the quality and stability Luiz/Kamara brought to our midfield. Barkley, given his history with us alone, must be our strangest signing since maybe Heskey? It's going to be some jump from starting with Luton, under little pressure as they were expected to be relegated anyway, to playing PL and CL football with us. Every performance scrutinised, dealing with rotation, he couldn't cope with it before. If Emery can get Barkley performing to the level Luiz was, football coaching is wasted on him, it's in the UN he should be.

Tielemans highest average match rating came from playing at his deepest. 7.23, compared to 7.11 as an attacking midfielder.

He scored 2 goals as the defensive pivot, created 1, with the stats the opposite way round in attack.

If we read everything you'd wrote last season, without knowing the context of how we'd got on, I'd be looking up pubs to drink in for Bristol City, rather than hoping we get somewhere warm to go to for our first Champions League away game.

A polite suggestion, but have you ever considered trying to enjoy your hobby? Maybe think about it.

Average match ratings?....try having a drink in Bristol some time, highly recommend it 👍

Any pints you'd rate above 3/10 for me to try?

This pint of porter in The King’s Head Radcliffe in Bristol was one of the best I’ve ever had. A certain 10/10

Fabrizio Romano@FabrizioRomano
Aston Villa have sent formal bid to Sunderland for England U17 striker Mason Cotcher.

He’s already training with Villa youth squad and impressing with his performances.

Villa want to anticipate other PL clubs and sign Cotcher as potential new talent for the Academy.

Spotted dog in Digibeth has or had decent Guinness, give it a try. Solid 7/10 last time I was there. The Lamp Tavern, or more specifically the owner of said bar, more of an acquired taste/grade A dickhead "CASH ONLY", give it a go and revert back.

If Felix was considered any good by Chelsea, after his loan spell there, would it not have been fairly easy for them to tie in buying him as part of the sale of Conor Gallagher? The fact that Chelsea don't want him, when seemingly they want just about anyone, says something to me.

They have changed manager, not sure if they've changed the structure around him that deals with buying and selling players.

As I’ve said before I agree with the sentiment regarding Barkley but even if you take him out of it I think the midfield will be slightly stronger next season than last, much stronger than in the last few months. Onana is a cracking signing and on the face of it the type of proper defensive midfielder we’ve needed for the years, Barrenechea looks like a similar player and a good punt. Ramsey will hopefully get over the injuries, I expect a big season from Tielemans now he looks to be fully settled and Kamara will be back at some stage. And we’ve still got McGinn. We’ll be fine.

Not sure about Onana at all, replacing Kamara that is. Dyche doesn't expect much from his midfielders so Onana should have been able to sit in front of that back 4 at his ease. Yet Gueye was getting picked ahead of him at times in that role. The price seems mental but then again a lot of the business between both clubs this summer is questionable.
Emery has obviously spotted something in him so let's see how it goes.

Agreed on the squad depth, it's obvious Emery didn't rate Donk or Tim anyway so they have been replaced with Barrenechea etc (we are all expecting the Donk to leave in next few weeks). I just think it's being underestimated how good Luiz/Kamara were for us and I think we could struggle in midfield in the early games to get their replacements bedded in.

Louie Barry back at Stockport County. After that goal vs Liverpool where it all looked rather promising, it just doesn’t feel he’s making it at the top level.

I think this is a good move for him. He had two spells in League One where he struggled, for various reasons, so for him to go back to that level with a club he's comfortable with and has confidence in him is good.

He's still only 21, let's see how he does this season.
