"Villa’s Ale house players were permitted to allowed to stop Arsenal attacks by repeated over physical man and ball challenges .Are referees in England overly influenced by fans in their decision making or are they just biased in favour of over physical football ?"

I'm 60 years old, and remember when players were allowed to tackle. If this prick would've seen the challenges I saw when playing sunday league through the 80s and 90s he'd have shat himself!

Rubbish -the best team lost this game. Saka was kicked off the park by Villa defenders and The referee offered no protection to Arsenals skilful players and it’s a familiar story when Arsenal play away.Villa’s Ale house players were permitted to allowed to stop Arsenal attacks by repeated over physical man and ball challenges .Are referees in England overly influenced by fans in their decision making or are they just biased in favour of over physical football ? As for VAR it’s as biased as the incompetent referees. Arsenal had a clear penalty and the disallowed goal should have stood the player did not attempt to control the ball with his hand. Arsenal have lost 2away games specifically because of VAR decisions. Is the PGMOL and the EPL bent or anti southern fans over influencing officials away from home? I doubt if those decisions would have been made against Liverpool FC or either of the Manchester sides. What’s more the bias is not allowed to be exposed or commented on- by the EPL -if anything is bringing football in England into disrepute it is the decision making of officials.-not the managers complaint about it.

😅 I enjoyed that, thanks Coop.

I think I've said this before, but on my first day of second year at university I wore my Villa shirt. It was the beginning of the 08/09 season. The professor made a comment about it being West Ham and I smiled, said nothing. I didn't know who he supported.

Several weeks passed, I did not wear the shirt, I made no mention of football whatsoever. Nor did I wear the shirt the tutorial after we beat Arsenal 2-0 that season, and I had no intention of making any comment on the game or the result - because I still didn't know who he supported.

But as he entered the room for that tutorial, he came straight over to me and said something along the lines of "you didn't win that match. Not really. If you call that football, I feel sorry for you. We dominated and should've won - well, we did win in the eyes of any neutral, because you did not come to play football".

This was a senior professor, respected in his field, in front of a room full of students.

Strange bunch, Arsenal fans.

I was surprised how complimentary Tony Adams was of Villa. He said that as an Arsenal fan he wanted them to win 4-0 and the goal at the end should have stood, but as a neutral it was the refs decision and should be accepted.
He was also very complimentary about Villa's high defensive line.

As for Arteta, what a ungracious prick. I hate Arsenal and their fans, so great to see them all crying like babies.

There's something oddly satisfying winning an ugly game playing ugly. Just pure grit second half and a big impact off the bench. Some fairly old school tackles and I thought Arsenal's forwards didn't fancy it as a result. Centre backs were excellent, Digne very good on Saka and McGinn a warrior. Rode our luck for sure a few times but we will take it.
Martinez 6 - very mixed second half, should have sent Cash & Havertz into ER when that last ball went in. Think he gets a bit ratty against Arsenal.
Konsa 4 - started ok but couldn't cope with Martinelli due to fatigue
Carlos 8 - I was ending his PL career after Bournemouth...solid out tonight
Torres 8 - very impressive with and without ball
Digne 8 - dealt with Saka really well, some turnaround this season
Kamara 4 - similar to Konsa really, barely got a kick second half until getting hooked
Luiz 6 - very quiet first half with Odegaard stuck to him. Improved a lot in second but that was an idiotic yellow for a suspension
Bailey 6 - cracking assist but didn't return from break
Tielemans 4 - couldn't get into the game at all and no surprise when he was hooked early
Watkins 5 - tried hard but very little change from Arsenal CBs

Cash, Moreno and Diaby were all very lively. Looking forward to seeing Moreno starting v Brentford. Excellent pass from Diaby to Watkins for a decent chance. Donk got stuck in but passing a big struggle...Ramsey a bit meh again but finished ok

Clown ratings

Honestly get fucked

For a while now, we have been described as a physical team by opponents and pundits, but I don't really see it, apart from a few rash tackles from Matty Cash.

I have never seen so much shirt pulling from any team than Arsenal did today. I suppose that's not physical as there is no body contact.

Physical used to mean fouling but now it seems that any player engaging in a challenge is seen as physical…seeing as we took the ball off AbuDhabi 13 times in their half on Wednesday we must be one of the most physical teams :-)

Guess we could use the same way and describe Arsenal as diving cheats :-)

22 is the magic number.

Do that, and we're champions.

22 wins? I would say 25-26, no?
Well, in 1981 we won 61.9% of our games (26/42), so an equivalent win number this season would be 23.5. However, there tends to be a greater disparity between top and bottom of the table achievements these days, compared to 43 seasons ago, thus I think Villan82 is closer to the mark. This is a rare occasion that I don't quite agree with PWS.

I agree, I think we looked far less 'physical' than Arsenal today, so not sure what some people are watching.

One thing that went unmentioned was that during the scramble for their disallowed goal, Cash was subject to a couple of kicks to the body that were at least on a par with Dougie's kick on whoever it was that they wanted a penalty for.

But things like that generally bother me. When SJM put his chance wide on Wednesday, during the slow-mo I was practically shouting "that Man City bloke is groping his packet!" That kind of thing would put me off.

During school football, there was one opponent who always used to pinch. At corners or when generally competing for the ball, he'd just reach out and pinch you wherever he could. I was once sent off because he was backing into me and pinched me very, very close to my testicles, so I grabbed his wrist and wouldn't let it go for maybe 10 seconds.* Straight red for that.

I hate those kind of players, and it seems like it's coached into some of them in the PL.

*I kind of got my own back the next year when we both went to head a ball from a corner, clashed heads and he broke his eye socket. Happy days.

Never had a problem with Arsenal until tonight. What a bunch of crying, delusional, arrogant, entitled and downright embarrassing shower of fucking dickheads. Can't wait until the Emirates return match now. Every thing needed in professional footballers has been on display over these last two matches. Every player in a claret and blue shirt take a bow.
