Nah it just goes to 5th place as far as I'm aware.

It’s the two leagues with the highest coefficients get an extra place. That’s been England 6 out of the last 10 years and 4 out of the last 5. Assuming that continues, basically means it’s 5 English teams going forwards.

Adding both Diaby and Doku into the attacking picture with Phil perhaps having better fitness luck and Archer, would be a significant upgrade on the attacking options of just Ollie, Buendia, JJ and Bailey.

At what point do the homegrown rules become something to consider in our signings?

It's reported the Dingles have put in a €18m offer for Mateo Retegui. Right now it's Wolverhampton or Genoa. At that price it would be rude not to make an offer.

He said 5th get a Champions League spot this season.

Why is that?

Expansion to offset Super League threats. England gets an extra spot because of coefficient.

Oh, excellent.

I hadn't heard that... 👍

I believe it becomes 4 automatic spots and the 5th via an extra round or something of qualifying against a team from Azerbaijan or something. So essentially 5.

Last I heard it was five spots available, but not to all teams who finish 1-5.

The fifth spot will be given to the English team with the highest European coefficient who weren't good enough to qualify that year.

Maybe they've changed it again.

Edit: As above.

This is why I brought the Champions League restructuring thread back into play.
It's all there and I had the foresight to bring about the discussion again after over 120 days yet still we find the transfer thread being polluted.
I mean I try and help out here by offering an assists but seems unwilling to take the chances and score

The owners said champs league football in 5 years ..

Not far off , six would be fine by me .

What great times to be a villain

Could actually have been five years were it not for Gerrard.

I was thinking that Smirker but we wouldnt have got Emery that summer but if we had we would

You're wasted here mate.

Have you spoken to your agent about a move to Villa Talk?  Or maybe one of the big Saudi football chatrooms.

Diluting the self importance, perhaps?

I don't know, footy mate. You seem to post anything you want to on any thread you see fit, yet describe others doing so as polluting.

I dunno, maybe I'm just being grumpy.

One half of Skys ITK transfer doubke act Dharmesh Sheth says Fulham are signing Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu.
Villa were linked with him but Pau and Mings are far better left sided central defenders.

Speaking of Saudi business, have you heard that a number of Premier League clubs are now criticising Newcastle for their method of selling Allan Saint-Maximin to pay for the transfer of Barnes and are requesting an investigation from the Premier League. I hope they get docked points along with Man City and Cheslea.

Oh dear

This is from the UEFA website. Make if it  what you will.

The four additional places created by the increase from 32 to 36 teams in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League will be allocated as follows:

• One place will go to the club ranked third in the championship of the association in fifth position in the UEFA national association ranking.

• One place will be awarded to a domestic champion by extending from four to five the number of clubs qualifying via the so-called “Champions Path”.

• The final two places will go to the associations with the best collective performance by their clubs in the previous season (total number of points obtained divided by the number of participating clubs). Those two associations will earn one place for the club best ranked in the domestic league behind the UEFA Champions League positions
