I'm not too fussed about the Sky thing either. It was on Amazon so just watch the game and ignore what anyone else says. It's not worth getting one's knickers in a twist about personally .

Don't read the Sky minute-by-minutes, but of the ones I read called someone an idiot for getting themselves sent off I wouldn't care a bit.

Indeed. Why anyone would think we need to file a complaint is beyond me.

So you think its acceptable for a impartial sports organisation to call one of our players a idiot? Have they ever done this to utd or Liverpool players?

Ive seen much worse red cards than durans and when has sky sports  called their player a idiot?

I couldn’t give a shit mate, if you’re going to get upset about the nasty company calling one of our players a name that upsets you, I can’t really help.

You obviously feel as though the description used is a continuation of the anti Villa agenda that’s so prevalent in English football. Again, crack on but there’s no such thing it just feels like it when we’re in the end of rubbish decisions.

Edit.

Yup. Struggling to think of things I could give less of a toss about.

Hopefully, the red will be appealed. Not sure it will work but we should try.

I think we should too, it wasn’t reckless or intentional so we should back support him.
Think there's an excellent chance of winning the appeal . The one camera angle is really clear and shows he completely loses his footing and control .
The reactions of the Newcastle keeper and Dan Burn really need looking at , tossers .

It's a guilty until proven innocent red card. it's useful to compare the incident with Rooney's and Beckham's stamps against Portugal and Argentina respectively. Intent is clear to spot and while those petulant reds were hardly' dangerous' the intention is 100% clear. For me, looking at his trajectory, Duran was doing the opposite and trying not to hurt Schär - which he succeeded in doing as the player was OK. I can't prove it, but it looks the more likely explanation.

I’m sure the refereeing adjudication panel, or whatever it’s called will be looking at this especially if the club appeals. That’s as far as it goes. Respected persons involved in the game giving their two-penneth will help Duran’s case.

I'd be amazed if it's overturned.

As someone said above, it's all about judging whether it's intentional or not, and as soon as someone has decided that it was then it's an extremely high bar needed to overrule that because there's no real evidence one way or the other. So you probably stick with the original decision.

Much in the same way that if the original decision has been that it was just a coming together, there wouldn't really be any reason to change that decision after the match either.

Your festive reminder that Sky Sports has no duty to be impartial about football and it would be weird if it did.

Agreed, it’s entirely subjective and there’s no glaring error in it.

I wonder how accidental Schar's kicking Jhon on the nuts first was

To me it should all follow the broader legal 'beyond reasonable doubt' standard. Neither Schar's nor Duran's contact with each other are any way clearly enough intentional, and with that Jhon's red card should be rescinded

The referee seemed to react a little impulsively in the moment, spurred on by the reaction of the Newcastle players. He could have paused, evaluated and I’m not sure he then gives red. No way it gets overturned though, it’s proving (or disproving) intent.

I've always thought that Ian Darke's a reasonable man. ;)  https://x.com/IanDarke/status/1872608643423801769

Shearer and Joe Hart on MOTD didn't think it was a red either.

Just one question.

If he's running full pelt and gets kicked in the knackers so he's out of balance where's he supposed to put his feet?

Besides anything else, Duran barely did more than rest his foot on Schah's backside, no way was he attempting to plant one on him.

I can't remember who they were playing against, or which player it was, but during game a couple of weeks ago Jamie Carragher described a Spurs defender as being 'brain dead.'
