It’s essential we keep him, he’s the future of the club virtually impossible for us to replace for his age and abilities

We look at other strikers in the past and present like Kane, Salah, Haarland, Mbappe, Levendowski, Ronaldo, Drogba, and think we’ve never been at that level to sign one of those top draw forwards

Well we have one who is already one of the best in Europe and could well develop into one who gets into that top group
We have him right now signed up for a good few years, money shouldn’t come into it we need to keep him at all costs

he is becoming a world beater and the success of the club in the next few seasons relies on players like him

I like him, everything points to him being really good, but is this not overplaying it a little bit?

Fair enough comment but that’s where I see him,
I would hazard a guess that of the names I mentioned only 2/3 of them were doing what Duran is doing at his age and they are the best there’s been in the last 25 years

I remember looking a few of them up at the time people were trying to get rid of him in the summer - at Duran's age Kane was on loan at Leyton Orient and still had two years of loans at Milwall, Norwich and Leicester to look forward to. Lewandowski was scoring decent amounts in the Polish third division. Salah was about to move to Switzerland from the team 17th in the Egyptian league. Drogba was yet to make his professional debut.

We turned down £40m in the summer for him, since then his performances and profile have multiplied. IF (big IF too) we sell him it will be north of £100m - he is one of the best prospects in world football at the moment, there will be a queue of "big" clubs in for him.

Comparing strikers at the same age is always a bit fraught with difficulty though, mainly because it doesn't take into account physical maturity. One of the reasons Wayne Rooney was so good at an early age is that allied to his natural ability, he was built like a brick shithouse at 17. Same thing applies to Jhon. Louie Barry on the other hand, could end up taking until he's 24/5 to make it in the Premier league (if he does) because he's built like a 12 year old girl.

Thanks for that

That’s why I believe he’s a bit special, and I want him to be special for us not someone else
which is why I hope big amounts of money becomes meaningless because of our ambitions

He is a bit special and is vastly approaching being the real deal.  The new contract will have a release clause in it, which will hopefully be big enough to put the usual suspect clubs off for a couple of years and we get to see him develop into the world class player he could very well become.

It is, but mainly in the other direction.

"Don't write off this 22 year old because Harry Kane was still on the bench at Leicester at that age". Sure, sound.

"This guy hasn't shown anything that justifies the hassle that he causes, just take the money". Absolutely daft.

The thing with Duran is the type of goals he scores. I can't think of any Villa player who has scored 3 goals as good as Durans against Crystal Palace(volley), Bayern and Leipzig.

Everton as well, the best of the lot.

Correct..

His first against Liverpool last season was great too. And the Ajax one that nearly broke the crossbar.

Whoa easy tiger. I like Duran as a bench option, although our all round game is miles better with Ollie in my opinion. If we were to sell Duran, a bench warmer as he is, there is no planet in which we are getting "north of 100mil" for him 60 to 70mil at an absolute push. He doesn't even start regularly for a team who are miles off competing for the title and probably won't even finish top 4!

As I say, he is a good bench option, but a 100 il player he certainly is not. Maybe one day, but not now. Nowhere near.

It's almost as if that has absolutely no bearing at all on his individual value.

Just point out Caicedo went for 106 mil and he was in a team that was miles off competing for the title and didn't finish top 4. And the same with Grealish when we sold him. If a team is desperate for the player, they will pay the asking price we want.

The price is driven by a few things:

His obvious talent

but also...

His profile
Champions League experience
His age
His potential
Scarcity and the lack of number 9s in the world

Oh and Villa not wanting to sell him.
