I don't get the criticism of the keeper to be honest, it was such a spectacularly well execute shot/lob, I don't reckon many keepers were stopping that. Certainly not Martinez on this year's form.

Are we currently seeing a really talented, young striker benefiting from Watkins running defenders ragged for 50-70 minutes? I’ve no doubt that he’s going to be brilliant but Southampton aside, he’s often struggled to make an impact from the start.

Obviously we’re soon going to reach the point where he’s going to get fed up at not starting. Which might be now, I don’t know.

I think he has benefitted from Ollie wearing teams down for sure, but his all round game is improving rapidly too, his passing is crisp and with purpose too.
It's got to a point with me though that when Ollie gets into good positions I'm half expecting him to fluff it, but with Duran it's the opposite.

He's quite far off his line, and he mis-times his jump a bit. BUT - that's not to be unexpected, given there was no reason why he should have been expecting to have to deal with the shot.

I think a better keeper might have thought "that kid thirty yards out has a bit of history of shooting early if the keeper's off his line, might just prep myself here in case he tries it", but it was definitely more good attacking than bad goalkeeping.

You could ask questions of Hans Segars for the Greatest Goal of All Time, but that would be churlish too as like everyone else he must have been mesmerised by Dalian advancing towards him and throwing Wimbledon players around like rag dolls.

It's the audacity that's fucking the keepers up, and it's a massive weapon for us. We can be a bit predictable in our attacking at times but the body of work Duran is now producing will in itself throw teams plans against us out of the window.

Whoever scouted him should get an extra slice of turkey for Christmas dinner.
I think Johan Lange was instrumental in signing him. He's at Spurs now with our former loans manager Mile Jedinak.
Lucky Spuddds won't put up the funds to get him, then. And, they have Richarlison (ha,ha) and they've blown their brains out on Solanke ...

He just loves it, doesn't he?

To think we had Danny Ings and moved him on..... I'm not surprised Watkins didn't appreciate that competition, but with Duran, it's serious stuff. With this manager, and the competitions we're in, every player in our squad has to expect rotation now, and Duran's all-round game is rapidly improving.

The bit that really fills me with confidence and hope is that we have two top-notch options now, and there are signs, with things like the flick-ons, and the running from both is that we're seeing signs that they could play together.......

I'd try Watkins and Rogers either side of Big John. He's the most clinical finisher but between the 3 of them they could rip defences to shreds. Baileys off like an old stilton so it's worth a try.
Yes but something would have to give in midfield and the midfield structure has been key to getting us to the top7, then top 4.
A front three of Duran, Watkins and Rogers would work because we'd put Onana, Kamara and Tielemans behind them. Likewise, using a set-up similar to last night, it's possible to see a side like this:
Martinez - Konsa, Torres, Mings - Cash, Onana, Kamara, Rogers, Digne - Duran, Watkins.
We have lots of options when all the main players are fit.
The likelihood, though, is that they continue to subb for each other.

The keeper seemed like he had concrete in his boots. Couldn't back pedal and he barely got off the ground with his jump. It was directly over his head. Martinez saves it all day.

But it was still a good shot, hit true and quickly. Don't shoot and you don't score.

The way Duran strikes the ball, it's really hard for 'keepers to read. The bend and swerve and normally are hit at pace too, he deserves credit for that goal, and it shouldn't be diminished by blaming the 'keeper.

Is it me or is there a distinct similarity in style to Benteke?

We are lucky to have him...but I bet his agent even now is touting him around. he will not be super sub forever. he does seem to react well coming on with fresh legs rather than from the start.

Agree with this. From the side angle it looked like he could easily have jumped higher and tipped it away.

Not sure to be honest. He's a lot quicker than Benteke, and if you look bake at Benteke's goals, most of them were carefully placed efforts rather than putting his laces through the ball. There's a similarity in that they're both big and very strong, but in actual terms of style of play, I think Duran is a lot more direct. He's also playing in a team that does a lot more passing than under Lambert, so Duran has had to learn that part to his game.

Should start v Forest , he's deserved it whereas Watkins has been underwhelming most of the season .
