I do wonder if we are stalling past the 1st game of the season?

I think this has been the strategy. This probably means there won't be much movement on the Felix move until then either.

Felix - if he comes to us at all - will be the 11th hour, right before the transfer window slams SHUT.

Ah thanks, missed that. Still seems like West Ham were happy to take him, attitude and all, but we've been greedy and scared them off.

So we were not entitled try and make a profit on a player like every other club does?

Literally nobody said that Clampster. We would have made a huge profit if we'd taken the bid that was widely reported, and had loads of posters on here saying "we should snap their hands off".

If we end up selling Duran for less than West Ham offered, or stuck with a player who is likely to cause problems in the dressing room, we've fucked up.

You said we were being greedy. Besides, no-one really knows what we wanted or what was actually offered. If we thought he was worth x amount, its up to the other team to pay it.

Well, of course. And hopefully someone will pay what we want. But at this stage with West Ham having gone elsewhere and Chelsea already having lost interest, it isn't looking great.

Because he was mad as a bag of frogs anyway I am not too concerned if he stay this year.  I don’t think his behaviour will get any worse and he nearly always delivered on the pitch.

Yeah, but everyone can see what he means

It’s a negotiation sometimes you come out on top sometimes you don’t
I know you’re in the camp where Villa never make any mistakes and are always perfect negotiators but that’s not real life

If we want to get rid of a player and they offered 30+ mill for Duran plus a young player and we turned it down because we thought we could get more, and we don’t we could end up regretting now
and although you think it’s your duty to always come to the defence of Villa in all things they might well have fucked up on this one, it’s a simple as that really

And don’t say no one knows what really happens because that’s the case for virtually everything we post on here
No one could post a single thing if that was the criteria

Hopefully the Arabian's come in for him. If not,  Turning down £30M and a player is looking more and more like someone dropped a massive bollock.

I suspect we are trying to establish a reputation for doing deals on our terms “you want our player, this is what it will cost you”. Particularly when dealing with a potential competitor for league places.

It's one thing to put a price tag on someone but if you don't demonstrate an intent to sell then the interested party is going to go elsewhere.

It seems like West Ham made 3 offers and each time we've told them his price is £40m. You do that when you don't really want to sell someone.

Now we have an unhappy player due to return back to training Monday who could be a disruption to the rest of the squad. When for a little less than our asking price, we could have moved him on and be considering who we're going to buy to replace him.

As things stand, that's a fail for me. And reading this thread, there appears to be some that would agree and others who would say we don't know the details for sure. Which of course is true, but we can only comment on what we see and interpret.
