Konsa and Mings*
Bade* and Pau

Look like two good partnerships on paper.  One defender who is happy to attack the ball, win headers (*) and the other who is a natural sweeper.

My thoughts exactly.

Except Pau is the only one who knows how to manipulate the ball.

Well good luck to him. Gave his all and was a big part of a couple of the most pleasing recent results we've had.

Indeed, best wishes Diego. Likely that we didn’t consistently see the best of him after that big injury so early in his time with us. Done well to recoup some of the fee for him.

A reported fee of £8.5m for his move now  yet in summer didn't we reject Fulham's £13m bid wanting £15m? Couldn't agree the add ons?

Anyway moved on now and most of his performances since start of season have been ok considering he was going to be someone who Emery wished to move on.
Just never had the consistency.

Good luck to his new venture over in Turkey.
I'll leave this particular thread now and move him away from my mind it's a new dawn and new day.

Tim Vickery had it spot on about Carlos before arrived in England and summed up his time here.

He never changed did he?! But of course Diego was signed under the old regime.

Vickery:
"He is maybe a Terry Butcher in reverse. One of those centre-backs that looks better than he is. Terry Butcher played three World Cups without any mistakes. He was much better than people gave him credit for. – Diego Carlos has those moments where he is the king of the hill, but I worry about the mistakes.”

South American expert also said:
"He's got a lot to offer. He's a very competitive centre-back with an air of swagger and class about him.
Yes, there are mistakes in him and yes, he can be reckless"

That summed it all up then and now.

Good bye it was an honour to have an Olympic winner play for Villa All the best Diego!

I know Percy has his stats that back up that he was better than people give him credit for but that’s the trouble with stats, you can make them work for your argument to suit. He frightened me to death when in possession of the ball at the back, exemplified by his pass to a ManU player when under no pressure which allowed them back into the game 2 boxing days ago. Unforgivable that was. There were some good moments as well, that long accurate pass to Rogers that allowed him to feed Duran for the 2nd goal v Bologna is one.

Emery clearly didn’t rate him and played him when needs must. I’m glad he’s now gone and hopefully he will be replaced by someone who doesn’t frighten me when in possession of the ball.

That’s all very well, but it’s irrational.

It doesn’t really matter if you’re scared about what might happen. Unless you think that trumps what actually happens.

If Emery didn’t rate him, why did he put him in for all home and away games v Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool last season? Cash and Konsa weren’t injured. Bayern Munich, Leiozig, Juve, Bologna and Bruges this season. Like you say, ‘when needs must’ -  he picked him for games he thought we’d struggle to score more than one goal in and a clean sheet was imperative to us wining the points..And he was dead right mostly. Thank god he wasn’t thinking about some of our fans being nervous.

Anyway, I’m glad he’s gone. He’s nearly 32 and was on big money. I like the look of Bade, and I won’t miss trying to convince people that a defence that lets fewer goals in and keeps clean sheets is better than one that concedes more goals and keeps less clean sheets. Some people spend hours disagreeing with that.

By the way, they’re not ‘my stats’. You can have your own opinion, but you can’t have your own facts. And they don’t just back up that he was better than people give him credit for, they just prove that he was part of our best non-Mings defence.

YOU'RE TALKING BOLLOCKS, PERCY!

No real reason, I've just always wanted to say that.

PERCY, YOU BOLLOCKS-TALKING, erm, TOSSPOT!

Good luck and nice knowing you, Rory.

And you, Diego. I always liked you more than most Villa fans. Don't forget to take Haaland out of your pocket before your flight, or you'll have to declare him.

Percy wouldn't fucking dare. If I fall, my gut could take out Perce and Daz W in one fell swoop.

Mutually assured destruction and all that.
