Emery says he's out of tomorrow's squad with a small injury, Carlos says (on InstaGram) "I'm not injured".

🚨🚫 No agreement between Fenerbahçe and Aston Villa for Diego Carlos.

Despite several days of negotiations, final bid has not been accepted by Villa and there are more clubs now joining the race for Diego Carlos.

Carlos has a strong enough hand here after the Torres injury. 18 months left on his deal so certainly doesn't need to leave and will still get plenty of minutes with us if he stays until the summer. For the club though, our negotiating hand here is weak. No doubt Fenerbahce are offering a lot less than Fulham last summer.

£11m according to the usual sources. ‘No doubt’ you know how much Fulham were offering.

I suspect we probably want just enough to cover what remains to be amortised, so it doesn’t go on our books as a crystallised loss.

We might be holding off until we've got the two CL group games out of the way by Jan 29 and no more injuries in the meantime.

Think I'd rather have the £ def in and the new lad trying to get up to speed, but we'll see.

I mean, I don’t think he’s ever played there in his entire career, nor have I ever got the impression he could play there, but sure, stick him in there.

Watching Forest last night I thought Carlos would probably be great playing for them, no responsibility with the ball, and likewise the big Brazilian lad they have would probably be shite for us.

I mean if you read the post as it was quite clear-  in emergency  situation. Perhaps you can enlighten us who else can play there in a situation where carlos is sold with bogarde and konsa are unavailable?

We have first team players who CAN play centre-half, but not at the standard of their usual position, and with the added downside that they also weaken the position they SHOULD be playing in.  Kamara played as many games at centre-half as centre-mid before he joined us.  But we'd lose our best CDM putting him there.  But again, this is about emergencies, not a first choice 11.

Torres' injury obviously puts a spanner in the works, because Carlos leaving without an immediate replacement coming in would put us a single injury away from having a make-shift centre-half at a critical point in the season.

Personally, I'd like to see us sign a centre-half before letting Carlos go, or better still keep him till the summer while Torres is out (he might have a JJ style recovery from his injury) - but I've no idea if our PSR situation this year would allow us to do that.  What I DON'T want us to do is have a January window that leaves us frantically trying to sell someone before the June PSR deadline, and at the mercy of opportunists looking to pick off players on the cheap.

Well, call me a traditionalist, I say we shouldn’t sell Carlos until we have someone that can (and has) play(ed) in his position. You’re suggesting selling Carlos regardless and making an “emergency situation” more likely.

Selling him seems daft to me given the games we have coming up and the injury problems, what happens if Tyrone breaks down?

Why would he need to answer a question about a hypothetical situation that won't happen?
