He cost us an initial £14m from Forest in September 2020. He is humble, gives his all, works hard and has improved no end. He's a great player and I like him. Sure he makes mistakes but so does every player out there.

That's my view on Cashy too.

Same here. He was good last night but it’s a position where we need an upgrade next season.

Garcia will be his competition next season. This constant talk of upgrades is grating

This has been Cash's best season at the club for me.

I think 'great' is pushing it a bit, though. I don't think he is of the level where we want to be, on the regular.

Makes him a virtually pure profit asset. That said, with a promising understudies (Garcia & KKH) I wouldn’t be that arsed if he stayed around for a bit longer and we concentrated (recruitment-wise) on other areas of the team.

I get it that Matty Cash can be a target for negativity because he is occasionally rash and sometimes gets caught out of position but he always comes across as knowing Villa is the peak of his club career and loves playing for us. I would much rather have him than some of those who want before him, Joleyon Lescott for example, who really didn't give a shit.

I get frustrated with Cash sometimes, but overall like him and hive gives his all and was largely very good in our biggest home game since 1983, on Tuesday.
With Garcia looking a real talent, I doubt right back will be our priority in the summer.
It seems to me the forward areas are our most uncertain areas. Its unknown what will happen with Asensio and Rashford, but possibility neither will be signed or want to sign. Watkins has been a great player for us, but it feels his time may be drawing to an end, I wouldn’t be surprised is Bailey was sold too. So possibly some gaps in the most expensive areas of the pitch to fill gaps, with restrictions on how much we can spend as ever.

Agreed, and I hope KKH is seen as part of the future because he seems to have really blossomed over the last season or so.

Another +1 for Cash. Always has been. Who is markedly better in the Prem? I like Timber. Alexander-Arnold. James is the best for me, but he makes Cash's injury rap sheet look like Ollie Watkins'.

Other than that I don't see anyone. So why "upgrade"? There's an argument for his booking in the first half of the away leg being the sliding doors moment too.

One bad habit he has is ball watching. I've seen him caught out a few times because of it where his man has run off him.

I agree, and it's why the 'develop someone instead' approach that we've taken makes sense.

I also agree on James, great footballer but the Ivo Stas of Cobham.

Better the Ivo Stas of Cobham than the Full Kit Wanker of Cobham.
