He's a Premier League player now, and performed brilliantly against Bayern. So yes, his value has increased, especially to a club in desperate need of reinforcements to try and avoid the drop , in the January window.

It's only a couple of million more than they agreed in the summer.

I don’t buy that at all, he’s done nothing in the league and yes he performed well against Bayern but it was in a defensive role that you probably could have got a few players to do, that in my mind doesn’t justify a tidy profit on the fee we paid in the summer.

Oh well, we’ve pulled Ipswich’ pants down on the deal and it seems everybody is happy. Great stuff.

He's a good player. It's just not happened. Look at the prices we got for Kellyman, Iroegbunam, and Chukwuemeka. Philogene has more in his bag than any of them, in January for desperate clubs.

For FFP purposes, when we bought him back, that fee would have been amortised over the length of his contract. Now that’s he’s been sold, does the amount we bought him for still get treated the same way? Or is it all ‘expensed’ this year now he’s gone?

Either way, 8/10 - tidy bit of accounting play by the club.

Seems like a good deal, but he’s got bags of potential so I sure hope we’ve also inserted a sell-on clause.

I think it's all getting out of hand the money thats being bandied about, 21 million for a player who had one good season in a lower division and hadn't showed up when given a chance in the premiership. I know it's a good deal for Villa but somehow it just feels wrong.

The amount of non amortised value is offset against the fee we receive from the sale.
So if we bought him for 20 over 5 years = 4 per year, but we have only amortised half a year,= 2 - 20 = 18 if we sold for 22 we book 4 profit for PSR purposes.

Makes sense, thanks for clarifying.

Sounds like FFP is a great time for the accountants out there.

Good luck to Jaden, he just never looked comfortable in the role for us, he may have done in time, however when we sold Diaby and with Baileys dip in form, time isn’t something we have.

Just for clarity we actually paid around £13m for him so using the same maths and sales amount we're going to get around 10m profit on him, which would pretty much cover the first year costs of Malen and the Spanish right back we've been linked to.

I was just trying to keep it simple, but that is good business.

Yeah I got that, I was just trying to give a more accurate figure on top because we will have done an amazing job if this is all correct.

Good and surprising fee. It hasn’t worked out, which is a shame. I would have liked to loan him and see if he can kick on, but that’s a quick profit for us. Good luck to him

I hope he has a good career but that money is to good to turn down on a player that isn't up to the required standard at this moment in time.

I do wonder if this was the plan all along.

We knew his true value, other clubs set the price, i.e. £18m in the summer, we got a 30% discount, £13.5m then sell him in January for the inflated window price i.e. £20m and make even more.

What is Monchi doing? Makes the summer business look better in that context.
