He’s dining out on one deflected rabona.  He has regressed badly.

And 11 other goals plus 6 assists. TBH his play at Hull is reminiscent of Barry at Stockport. And the surprise I have is most of his better play at Hull (and for us in the pre-seasons before we sold him) came from left wing rather then right wing. But we have persistently played him on the right and then wondering why he isn't doing anything.

Yep, anyone who thinks his reputation is purely because of that goal wasn't paying attention, he made the championship team of the season for most people with any real knowledge of the division.

He's struggled since he came back but, without relying on the benefit of hindsight, he wasn't a bad use of the money at the time and had similar stats to players like Bowen who made the same step up. I still think there's a good player in there but I don't know what we need to do to get him out of his shell because this season he's played well within himself.

Yes, I’ve thought that too.

I think the move to a CL team was just too much. If he can get a loan move to a Ipswich or Everton and be an integral part for them it should give him the confidence he's been missing.

From memory he played on left wing v Palace in the cup and was rubbish in all honesty.

Barring munich game he has been rubbish in near enough every other game. He has been given opportunities  and not taken any of them in the league

How many league starts though? A handful at most, isn't it?

I watched quite a bit of him playing for Hull and felt really positive about his return. But the left wing issue notwithstanding, it’s been infuriating watching him pass up chance after chance while barely ever really reaching first base (energy, bit of pace, a trick).

Let’s hope a loan enables him to right the ship. Would be a shame to sell him outright at this stage, though.

Edit: (Not the sharpest tool in the box; has he been able to understand what the coaching staff are asking of him?)

Shame he didn’t put away that chance v Man Utd a couple of months ago. It may well have kick-started things for him.
You get the impression he doesn’t feel he belongs, which is a shame. Football is so often very small margins.

Was surprised Emery re-signed him , unless it's part of the FFP jiggery pokery shenanigans. He's been poor , looked unhappy and frightened almost , shame he had a great season at Hull .

I don't think it was that surprising, Emery regretted letting him go and the likes of Spurs were apparently in for him. Risk just hasn't paid off, it happens. Even then it's only been half a season but it doesn't look like it will work.

I was surprised at the time that we signed him back but backed Emery given he’s obviously seen a lot more of him up close than I have (& knows a lot more about football than me!) but banking the £6m, rather than spending £12m seemed the obvious play. We could have gone out and spent £30-£40m on a winger on a 5 year deal and not really noticed a difference this season financially…

I wouldn’t write him off yet, but he needs a loan in my view. Ipswich would be good.

Would agree with this. When JJ broke through I never thought he'd be a premier league player, he looked like a rabbit in the headlights.
But he's really improved. It's just a shame he can't keep his match fitness.

Could be a similar thing here with Jaden. A loan would be good, Ipswich would be ideal.
