I hope that he proves me wrong - i just don't see him getting into the first 11 - he will be a good squad player, who we will bring on for the last 10-15 minutes when we are winning comfortably, or the occasional league cup or FA Cup game.

Would rather have spent the money on Archie Gray from Leeds.
I don't see that. I think he'll play many, many games. I think he's a lot more dangerous than what I watched from Gray last season.

If Archie Gray was available for £13m, I would also like to see us sign him.  But he's not.

Archie Gray is a very talented player, who will undoubtedly have a decent premier league career.  He'll maybe even reach full International level.  But they're different types of players entirely.  They're certainly not like for like, even if they could technically fill the same wide midfield position.

I think if you just take the accounting out of it completely, it still makes sense.  We had a promising 21-year-old, on the fringes of our first term, who played well in pre-season, but was unlikely to get a LOT of playing time this past season.  We would have preferred another loan, but he was 21, not a kid any more, and he wanted to be playing week-in week-out.  So we sold him, reluctantly, but at below market value to ensure that if he DID develop, and progress rapidly, we could get get him back here for below his market value.  The fact that multiple clubs were willing to pay £18m for him shows he did develop last year.  And we've now got a player back, for below market value.

Would he be the same player if we'd simply loaned him out again last season? Maybe, maybe not. We certainly wouldn't have brought him back if he'd flopped, we'd probably just be grateful we got the £5m up front for him.

However, we came to a deal that kept the player happy, but that also protected our long-term interests if he developed in the way we thought he might.

And he did. And now he's back.

I'm very pleased to see him back, and I think he offers something different.  I think he'll sometimes be frustrating to watch (tricky players always are), but I'm also confident he'll be responsible for some really bums-off-seats moments during the season.  Good luck Jaden!

Im very pleased he is back too.

I just don't see why we didn't loan him out to Hull. We wouldn't have had to pay them £8M & any potential sell on clauses just for the privilege of having him for a year.

But like I said, I don't understand the ins & outs of the accounting, etc, so Im just going to ignore it & be pleased that he is back with us... 👍

I think he will be one of the big blessings of the season
Surprise a few and become a regular first team starter

That’s my prediction

I agree, and I think the same of the two lads from Juve.

and suggests that the club may well see him as a ready replacement for Diaby. I'm not massively surprised by the big clause though, another season like he's just had but in the premier league and you're already looking at £50m+

He must be delighted himself, if he went out loan he would have just been getting the same wages as he was on here, and would have been back on the same wages when he came back.
Now in a year, he has had a cut of two transfer fees and (i assume) two wage increases.

Maybe that is the key to this wheeler dealing, making sure the players and agents are doing well out of the deals too.

I guess Archers wages would have increased at Sheff Utd too and again now he's back.

I think he will be excellent. He looks a player highly confident in his abilities. Great age to now push on. He can play both sides too which is a huge plus.

How about we pay the release clause to ourselves? Would that help with FFP?

I think Nas should just sponsor the canteen at Bodymoor for £30m and Wes should rename the youth team facilities as Young Bucks after his Milwaukee team for another £20m. All the tea and biscuits should be branded too and we can pay ourselves for that.

Every squad player will get his chance this season. An extended run in the domestic cups and some CL games too perhaps. Then there's the invincible injuries, hopefully we've had enough last season to last us the next 5.  We'll see plenty of Birdface.
