I was disappointed to lose him and am glad he's back.  I hope we can give him the minutes he needs to develop.

I've got mixed feelings about the process, it seemed daft to me at the time (however much he wanted a move) and I guess it's cost us a tidy packet and big future sell-on clause to effectively loan a player out for a year.  (Nobody will persuade me that getting in £5m to amortise £13m out over 5 years is good business).   But the main thing is we have a very promising and confident youngster back on the books.

Good luck JPB.

I have to admit that I am confused by the whole process too & cant even begin to start understanding the math(*s) around the accounting.

No doubt we will hear all about the benefits for Hull from their owner at some point though. Even if he does ignore the benefits & clauses that suit Villa...

But like you said, its great to have him back & hopefully he proves to be the player that a lot of us thought he could be before he left.

It breaks my heart to see what's become of this once-great site. That would've been a yellow card offence in Withington Red's days.

Haha! Apologies, its habit...

I know it sounds like I am bitching, but if we are supposed to have this new unified branding across the board, then why are there still two different badges on this image?

And why don't we have a claret & blue tracksuit for these photo ops?

Its not a compete & utter PR nightmare issue, but I thought the whole point of rushing the new crest & branding through was so that we were one unified brand vision so that we can sell ourselves to the global market.

If the brand new & open American market look at us from these images, then they are going to be confused as fuck when we rock up in claret & blue jerseys...

Like I said, it's not a PR nightmare, but having worked in the graphic & branding industry, I know that its the small details that make for a polished & professional looking brand.

Don't concern yourself with it, it's all very complicated. Yet another reason why accountants don't get paid nearly enough.

It was causing confusion for the transfer gossip headline writers.

We got the revenue last season that helped the numbers, he got to play and develop, and we retained the rights to keep him as our player.

It's a lot of juggling etc, but worth it in my view; he matured a lot last season, and got to play way more than he would for us, and under a lot less pressure than he would have been here.

I think if you just take the accounting out of it completely, it still makes sense.  We had a promising 21-year-old, on the fringes of our first term, who played well in pre-season, but was unlikely to get a LOT of playing time this past season.  We would have preferred another loan, but he was 21, not a kid any more, and he wanted to be playing week-in week-out.  So we sold him, reluctantly, but at below market value to ensure that if he DID develop, and progress rapidly, we could get get him back here for below his market value.  The fact that multiple clubs were willing to pay £18m for him shows he did develop last year.  And we've now got a player back, for below market value.

Would he be the same player if we'd simply loaned him out again last season? Maybe, maybe not. We certainly wouldn't have brought him back if he'd flopped, we'd probably just be grateful we got the £5m up front for him.

However, we came to a deal that kept the player happy, but that also protected our long-term interests if he developed in the way we thought he might.

And he did. And now he's back.

I'm very pleased to see him back, and I think he offers something different.  I think he'll sometimes be frustrating to watch (tricky players always are), but I'm also confident he'll be responsible for some really bums-off-seats moments during the season.  Good luck Jaden!

I hope that he proves me wrong - i just don't see him getting into the first 11 - he will be a good squad player, who we will bring on for the last 10-15 minutes when we are winning comfortably, or the occasional league cup or FA Cup game.

Would rather have spent the money on Archie Gray from Leeds.
