The Damson (now called The Golden Acres) .

Theoretically that is in a much nicer area than Druids Heath although pubs like that give me cause for concern. To say the least. This was about a mile and a half from where I used to live. The Centurion.

As for the one in Druids Heath I remember driving past it about 15 years ago someone had graffitied and named a 'Grass' in the vicinity or on the building itself. I didn't stop

The centurion always used to be decent enough. My dad used to be part of the running club nearby (that shared the name with the pub) and they'd regularly go there after training so I've been in there loads, never seen any real problems there and was always a decent atmosphere.

Know a few centurions from the Park Run - never made the link to the pub strangely.

Just seemed to have bad name when we moved to Smiths Wood / Castle Brom in 2014. Periodic reports thereafter - maybe a case of give a dog a bad name.

This one is similar distance to me now and seems to open and close quite frequently undergoing makeovers

There was a pub on the Woodgate estate that was iffy. Can't remember it's name now as it's donkey's since I was round that area.

I can't imagine that those sorts of pubs do very well these days. Most pubs that have survived seem to do a decent food offering which is where the money is. The days of making a pub pay from 3 or 4 regulars sat at the bar all evening with a pint of mild are long gone.

There are a few around where I grew up that amazingly still trade. All off main roads - no modern gastro-pub/decent food offer - seem to survive on local trade.

Kings Oak - The Fairway
Cavalier - Fairfax Road
The Coppice - Edgewood Road

Not a flat roof pub unfortunately, or Villa related, but 4th column in this - 'The Bing Boys of Fife'.  After the huge crowd in the 1949/50 League Cup Quarter Final tie against Rangers, Cowdenbeath planned to build an 80,000 capacity stadium.

Impressive because the whole of Fife had a population of 306,778 (1951 census), so it would've involved over quarter of the entire population of the county (basically everything between Edinburgh and Dundee) to show up in order to fill the stadium.

Still probably more likely tp happen than the Jasper Carrott Megadome being built in Bordesley, mind.

The Damson (now called The Golden Acres) .

Is that on that Estate at the back of Land Rover, by their social club? If so I used to go in there with my mate who lived round the corner, it was absolutely fine.

I had my first pub pint in the Centurian on the Wood as my grandad lived over the road, he was a regular there and on the committee at the Labour club over the road.

On the subject of VPs very own estate pub, it really needs an attack dog on the roof and an handwritten advert for a meat raffle to make it authentic.

I'm talking  about the 90s and early 2000s so it might be that it's gone downhill since as well.

Went in there one Saturday lunchtime when there wasn’t a game, played pool and it was winner stays on, spent 20 minutes trying to lose the game after spotting the knife in the guys waistband :-)

Yeah that's the one , called The Golden Acres now and still going as a pub though part of it seems to have been hived off as a curry house/takeaway .
