What is noteworthy is how quickly it seems they've created a coalition of interested parties including the local council. It's always appeared at B6 that we have been operating 'outside the tent' and not really working with the people who can make change happen quickly.

No I think you're spot on. Councils around there seem to realise what an asset having a world famous football club on your patch is, and all of the income it creates for the area. They'll no doubt all work hard to get Man U a new stadium and totally redevelop wherever it is. We had to go cap in hand just for a half decent train station that can handle a few more passengers.

The coalition has been around for awhile as the Trafford Development Plan (area not ground) is several years old. It is only recently that Manure have decided to be involved as Ratcliffe smelt a way to get the Council/Government to pay for a new ground as part of it.

But you are correct we never seemed to have the same linkup with our Council over the years and Manchester have had 6 years headstart on a combined authority and more connections between the councils. However as they are smaller councils, they probably needed it.

We scoff at Blues, but I think they intend to go ahead with their development, I highly doubt it will be a 70k super stadium but who knows?  But they seem to be getting on with it and as a modern stadium with modern facilities and I would assume reasonable transport links, I think they will be better placed to secure alternative commercial uses than we are (gigs, NFL games, internationals etc).

I think Hecks plan to get to 400m t/o may arguably have been ok in the very short term in supporting Emery this year and next, but even in the medium term I feel it's a disaster.  IF (and I realise it's a big if and people will take the piss here) Blues do build, I think we will have missed a trick.
