The bit I saw praised the Man City academy rather than Pep and listed who's playing Premier League football. Doyle at Wolves, McAtee at Sheffield United, Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and Rogers. Quite a few are making it but it still misses the point that they're recruiting the best players from other people's academies.

Well exactly.

To be fair I will watch MOTD2 later. I just know Murphy is a bloody cliched lazy pundit. Lawro replacement.

MOTD getting our Diaby's name wrong is surely really bad, did nobody pick that up in production?

I know, that was awful.

Did she call him Mohammed Diaby?!

Southampton got relegated last season with some of those so called high flying Man City academy players being recruiting.
Doyle and McAtee are nothing spectacular, and they are on par with those solid footballers of last season but not Rodgers who is next level.
Only Palmer and Foden can be named with any reverence.
Staggering Emery isn’t praised. Funnily enough Rodgers has said Emery calls me a championship player ! It’s a clever attempt to motivate and encourage him and remind him there’s still more needed

I know he's not popular on here, but I think Murphy is a pretty decent pundit and as miserable as he looks he usually gives credit where it's due.  Obviously, some researcher had come up with the angle that there are a few ex Man City academy players in the PL and he trotted it out, but I wouldn't really expect a pundit to have detained knowledge of a players youth career.  It's a throwaway comment really.

I'd put those 2 on a similar level to Archer and AJ Ramsey. Foden is a bit different because he's  acouple of years ahead of the rest.

It's not a surprise there are ex-Man City youth players plying their trade in the premier league.  As others have said, it's the logical conclusion when you go around sweeping up the best 14/15/16 year olds from other academies.

Morgan Rogers is a perfect example, they took from him West Brom when he was 16, and by 18 he was out on loan. Boro bought him at 20 after he's had three loans in two years. I have no doubt Man City had SOME impact on his development, but to describe him as "a product of the Man City academy" is stretching it a bit.

You can criticise Man City for their approach, but I hope it's something we're trying to replicate.  We're the biggest club for miles around, and with a huge catchment area we should be hoovering up all the talented kids in a fifty mile radius.

The point being, with as many promising kids as Man City acquire, and first team squad of limited size, it's a statistical certainty that they will sell/lose some very good players along the way.  But if they're getting Cole Palmer money for them, I'm sure they'll be delighted. Morgan Rogers money, not so much.

EDIT: Just checked, and it seems Man City paid West Brom £4m for Rogers as a 16-year-old.  So technically, they've probably lost money on him, unless they had a big sell-on percentage when they sold him to Boro.

I dunno, if we end up paying Boro the full whack (and based on his start, one would assume we will) then Rogers would have generated £5m for Man City (£1m original transfer fee plus 25% of Boro's profit from the sale to us).

That's useful money to receive for someone who had never played a single minute for you.

Chelsea were doing the same thing but in Europe instead of just the UK. It is why they had Salah, KDB and Lukaku all through at about the same time and all dumped before they became the players they were. It also didn't help they kept on employing Mourinho who didn't like players he hadn't bought himself.

But they paid West Brom £4m (if the reports at the time are to be believed).  Which comes back to my point about him not being a product of their academy.  He was a purchased player, who'd already played for the West Brom first team by the time they bought him.  They might get their money back on him, I guess?

Page 6 of the Morgan Rogers thread quotes an interview he gave.Basically,he states that the Citeh move set his career back because it's "the most structured club in the league" and that he became "a mannequin".
When he moved on loan he refound his freedom to play his natural game.
Someone commented just like Grealish.

We've already replicated it, loads of players in the U18 and U21 squads joined us when they were well alon the road of their development.
