Caicedo is a midfielder usually anyway so being in defence was not his usual position. Other teams who do that are Arse with their left backs and Liverpool with Terrence. I'm not sure if Maatsen has the midfield passing range they do though.

With us, that’s not the point. It’s more about him being in the 2 if the 3-2-5 we want to be in possession, freeing up one of the midfield 2 to join in the attack, and cutting the distance for both Maatsen and that midfielder to get back into position if we lose possession.

Which way we go would depend on who we pick.

My preference is:

Konsa - Mings - Pau - Maatsen
        Onana - Kamara

In that team, if we get hit on the break, either Onana or Kamara can step back in to make a 4 with the other covering and Pau or Mings going to the left. That leaves Maatsen free to provide width on the left as part of the attacking 5 that we (and most other teams) try to use in attack.

If the plan is to bring Maatsen into the DM and let one of them go forward we really need to add some natural width on the left to stop us becoming too narrow.

Expert analysis tonight from Troy Deeney and that mediocre Welsh centre half .
Deeney has put some timber on .
Two Brummies on the BBC. That’s rare.

I like Ashley Williams. I find his presence quite calming - sort of the 'anti-Micah'.

He won me £1,200 off a free bet during Euro 2016 so I'll always have a soft spot for him.

Fair enough Paulie. Jesus though , I'd say that's a slippery slope letting online "experts" into the BBC MOTD studio !?
The guy spoke well but he had no real idea of what's going on so it was weird .

That sounds like quite a few of the ex pro’s tbh, I’m looking at you in particular Micah Richards.

It seemed to me that he didn't want to say too much in case it jeopardised his access to the club. His hair was a bit weird though.

Just hope this isn't the start of podcasters in the MOTD studios like Sky do

Deeney doing his normal look at scores, then pick a player from the winning team without any other checking.

Martinez, because he is the only GK to keep a clean sheet, probably because he was the only keeper to not face a shot on target.

Konsa, in the centre two, even though he played the game as RB.

Ashley's mates are all Villa so he's got an interest in us. He's got great fashion sense too.

I don't think all that much of him. Compared to Richards mind, Williams is of Reg Gutteridge standing.

Just caught the MOTD highlights for our game. I think Pearce commentating was just phoning it in as "a win would all but mathematically guarantee a place in the playoffs, and a victory would take them awfully close to the automatic last 16".

Then mentioned it again after McGinns goal.

Most of the commentary on MOTD is recorded after the game. Last week v Saints, the Pearce even started our commentary by alluding to something Lineker had just said in the intro to our game.
