What annoyed me was that we didn't make a bigger deal of it. Most other teams would have been straight after the ref to remonstrate. It's not something we generally like to see, but it could influence a ref when they're called over to watch the monitor.

The players surrounded the ref after the goal to claim the foul.

I just so desperately wish theyd fuck it right off. When refereeing/VAR decisions are being debated long after the game is over you know its just wrong.

And before VAR, refereeing decisions were never spoken about once the final whistle went?

Of course they were, but those decisions were made after a single look, a split second decision in most cases.

With VAR it can often take an age via multiple camera angles, dumbfounding everyone who has paid to get in because of the lack of information, curtailing or spoiling goal celebrations, muddying the water where the rules are concerned, using poor graphics to prove a point, an vastly inconsistent approach varying from game to game and club to club and they still come to the wrong decision. I know which I prefer and that includes Saturday night, the health of the game is far more important than a point for us.

Whilst the hours upon hours of televised studio analysis of every moment of every game exist, its bastard offspring is going nowhere.

People keep moaning about curtailing celebrations.  There's been loads of full-on celebrations in the Holte this season, you only hold back if you're pretty sure there's a problem.  I can live with that if more correct decisions are made, exactly like the Chelsea foul on Saturday.  But I do agree there's still a problem with implementation and interpretation of certain laws like handball and how much contact is too much in the box.

Don't forget there will be semi-automated off-side next season, so that will be FAR quicker and more accurate and all but eradicate one of the major problems with VAR.  There will still be toenail decisions, but it's the same for every team.  No more blurry lines etc.  I'd much rather have that than go back to some of the pre VAR howlers we used to see.  And if the game doesn't want to see toe-nail decisions then they could easily build in a tolerance if they want to - the point is it won't be people guessing.

I hate it, but it not going anywhere.

My bugbear is with offsides, and the fact the ball being struck and leaving a player foot could account for two yards difference between two players moving in opposite directions, yet they're ruling yes/no on hairline decsions.

My suggestion is go back to linesmen flagging and refs giving decisions and allow a 'grey zone' where it's refs call if there's a toenail difference.

They won't need it Lee, I believe there's a sensor in the ball.  The only problem is that it's so accurate people will have nothing to moan about after the game.

Yep, the version of offsides we're getting next season is what should've been implemented in the first place, the tech was available but for some reason pgmol decided against it.

My only concern is will linesmen be even more reticent to flag because of the tech and say the attacking team win a corner, will it be pulled back by semi-automated at that point or is it only for goals, pens etc?

Was the ball inflated enough?

They could put a bell in the ball so the ref/VAR can hear when it's kicked.......

Here's an idea.  Why not get rid of the twats in the booth.  Forget about it for all but penalty decisions and offsides.  If a penalty decision is turned down, let the ref himself just go to the monitor to check his decision.  It is the re-refereeing of games that is causing all the issues.
