That’s great for him. I’m so glad he’s well thought of elsewhere as well as here.

Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings to join Euro 2028 board of directors
Mike McGrath23 March 2025 6:18pm GMT

Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings is set to land a stunning role on the board of directors for Euro 2028 and will combine playing Premier League football with organising the tournament in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Debbie Hewitt, the Football Association chair, names her board this week to deliver the finals in three years’ time and it is understood that Mings, 32, has been earmarked for a position.

Chief executives from the FA of each host country will sit on the board but there are other roles including independent non-executive directors on the organising team for an event involving 51 matches in a month.

Mings will be the most high-profile footballer to hold such an influential position while still playing. The last of his 18 caps for England came almost two years ago and he would be able to provide the perspective of an international player. When the finals start, he will be 35 years old and is expected to still be playing.

The former Ipswich and Bournemouth defender has worked on charitable projects during his playing career, including supporting an initiative backed by Prince William to end homelessness, having experienced it himself as a child. He also has a football academy in Birmingham and is director of interior-design company KTM. His work saw him once named in Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list to recognise “young visionaries”.

While he was ruled out for all of last season after a serious injury on the first weekend of the Premier League, he returned in October and made 16 appearances this campaign including in the Champions League, helping Villa to reach the quarter-finals.

Being one of the key people behind Euro 2028 will strengthen the view that he could eventually stay in football administration when he eventually hangs up his boots. The FA declined to comment when asked about Mings’s role in Euro 2028.

Uefa confirmed England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland as hosts in 2023, running unopposed after Turkey withdrew to focus on a bid with Italy for Euro 2032. Casement Park in Belfast was named as a host venue but there are doubts over whether it will be ready in time, and its games could be spread across other host cities.

What a credit he is.
makes a mockery of all those like Gerard and MPs saying he should concentrate and focus on football.

Clearly Mings is recognised as a player and person who they want to remain in the game at the highest and influential of levels.

There aren’t any other current english players or many in past who would be given the opportunity or recommended and those players are few and far between.

Bet Debbie just fancies him - and lets face why not  ;)

What a credit to the club but more importantly to the man - well done Ty

Thanks for posting the article, purpletrousers.

So good to see Our Ty is valued for his contributions on and off the pitch at the level of being invited to join the practical planning for an international tournament. He’s impressive all round.

Another clean sheet and Mings superb again today as was Konsa . They make a great pairing at the back.

That's 4 clean sheets in our last 5 games .
As many as we kept in the previous 29 games .

The penny might drop eventually.

One of those rare ones was Everton away, when it was Konsa and Mings at the back again, and the vast majority of the others over the time Mings was injured were achieved by trying ‘the dreaded Konsa experiment’.

But correlation is not causation and clean sheets don’t matter anyway.

Not bothered by this or previous stat. Selective stats serve no meaningful purpose.

They were ok but let’s keep a perspective  here they were not up against a combination of  CR9 Shearer and Drogba. This was a poor second division attack that has not scored many goals even in that division.

I thought they both did everything required. It might have been a game for Pau, given how much time Mings had on the ball and the lack of a threat from Preston.

As we've seen though, if there's one thing that Emery loves it's to ease players back from injury very gently. And I imagine Keane and that big lump they brought on in the second half would have loved to kick Pau around a bit.

The last 15 games they played together, before Mings injury, all PL games, brought 7 clean sheets and 8 goals conceded in total, never more than 1 in any game. Saying this serves no meaningful purpose is a bit like saying Watkins scoring 27 goals last season doesn’t mean he had a good season.

Mings wasn't eased in at all. He even said the other day he was playing games whilst circa 80% fit.
Now he's reaching full fitness we are seeing the clear improvement in our defence and the performance of others around him.
