K Maguire reporting on X:
Aston Villa owners stick another £50 million into the club in the form of new shares.

I dont understand what this means can someone explain as i have seen it a few times?

You can put money into a company in two ways. Either as a loan, or in return for new shares. The latter is obviously better as loans theoretically have to be repaid, and attract interest, or at least they have to now after the Man City ruling.

By buying more share, does it effectively reduce the proportion of the club that Comcast own?

Looks like it's Atairos that put it in, increasing their stake.

Yeah, so almost equal partners now. Interesting. Do wonder what their end game is. New stadium etc will happen I'm sure.

I think they are venture capitalist, so they’ll have a short/medium term exit strategy, when they expect/hope to take their profit. Quite how this plays out and what their angle is, wouldn’t we all want to know.

There are many alternatives out there. I'm not sure they'd want out, because the prestige of owning a Premier League club, and growing it to be one of the biggest in the world, is quite a draw.

There's no doubt others would like to be involved too, hence Altairos.

Sawiris is often visible whereas Edens isn't so much perhaps the latter will go but I see Sawiris being committed.

The only thing that really makes sense that I can see in terms of Atairos is a new stadium that is part of a wider mixed use development that includes retail, leisure and residential. I can't see what else would provide them with a return on their investment, other than a possible sale of the club, but if Nas and Wes were considering that, I don't understand why they'd need investment from Atairos whose speciality is development.

Indeed, it all looks really strange - as if the only realistic explanation for their increased involvement is the one thing the club have specifically ruled out, ie stadium move.
